So, if you haven’t seen it, I suggest you do it before reading my piece, as I don’t want you to blame me for ruining the fun for you. Setting that warning aside, here’s what went down with the sophomore season’s debut of Invasion.
Invasion Season 2 Episode 1 Recap
The season premiere, titled ‘Something’s Changed,’ takes place four months after humanity’s retaliatory strike against the aliens successfully neutralized their mothership, causing it to crash out of the Earth’s atmosphere.
In the aftermath, it becomes evident that the aliens have grown even more hostile, posing an increased threat to the survival of humankind.
As a result, world governments are compelled to unite and establish the World Defense Coalition (WDC) with the aim of coordinating a combined response.
In a broadcast to the world, WDC President Benya Mabote delivers a powerful message, urging humanity to stand together and persevere in the ongoing struggle against the alien invasion.
Meanwhile, amidst the chaos of an alien attack on their settlement, Mitsuki Yamato emerges as a beacon of hope for the survivors in Osaka, Japan, selflessly venturing to aid those in need.
However, unknown to Mitsuki, his selflessness catches the attention of a clandestine group known as DharmaX, who swiftly apprehend and whisk him away to a concealed location, with their intentions yet to be revealed.
In the vast expanse of the American West, Aneesha Malik and her kids, Sarah and Luke, bravely persevere in the aftermath of Ahmed’s untimely demise.
Despite their independent survival, a desperate act of robbery at a gas station almost unravels their world, all thanks to Luke’s rebellious streak.
Aneesha is compelled to relocate her family, uprooting them from their humble abode due to the repercussions of Luke’s thoughtlessness.
This leads to a heated argument between Aneesha and Luke, where she imparts upon him the solemn duty of caring for Sarah should anything happen to her.
Determined to forge a safer future, Aneesha resolves to journey North, to the very edge of the continent, praying that the uncharted landscapes remain untainted by alien invasion.
Mitsuki shows up at the DharmaX facility and gets introduced to Nikhil Kapoor, a billionaire collaborating with the WDC to tackle the alien invasion problem.
Nikhil spills the beans that his company snagged the wrecked alien mothership after it got bombed.
He’s been researching the ship and points out that his scientists failed to establish contact with the ship’s hive mind despite their best efforts. Since Mitsuki is the only one who has actually talked to the aliens, Nikhil hopes she can help his team communicate with them and bring an end to the war.
Luke tries to steal some gasoline, and as a result, Aneesha and her family are arrested by military personnel. The officers find the alien claw among their belongings and identify them as the Maliks, government targets.
In the military convoy, they meet Clark Evans, the leader of the Movement, and survivors uncooperative with the military.
Despite failing her psych evaluation for emotional volatility, Nikhil approves Mitsuki to check out the ship. Mitsuki learns the alien pod ships can cloak, keeping the creatures hidden during the invasion.
Nikhil also reveals the alien mothership houses a strong power source, but scientists have been unable to bypass the guardian entity. Mitsuki is sent to communicate with the entity and determine the aliens’ intentions.

Invasion Season 2 Episode 1 Ending Explained
In the final parts of the episode, Mizuki goes into this room on the ship to have a chat with the entity that’s blocking humans from accessing the ship’s power source
But here’s the kicker: Mitsuki gets a warning that this entity is super dangerous. Trying to interact with it could mess up her brain big time and even put her in a coma.
However, Mitsuki boldly approaches the entity, which is instantly simulated by her presence. Mitsuki attempts to engage with the entity, but it retreats.
As a result, she relies on the preset frequencies in her communication system to entice the entity. Eventually, Mitsuki appears to successfully establish a connection with the entity, which responds positively to her. However, this interaction sets off a chain reaction.
In the final act of the episode, the Malik family is liberated from military captivity when the Movement launches an attack to rescue Clark. Aneesha initially plans to hit the road, but Clark persuades her and her children to join the Movement.
Upon arriving at the Movement’s shelter, Aneesha realizes that this rebellious faction has the necessary resources for survival, and Clark genuinely intends to assist them.
While Aneesha remains unsure about her family’s future plans, tensions arise as Luke has a seizure coinciding with Mitsuki’s interaction with the mothership.
Luke, who was previously immune to the aliens’ nosebleeds, seemingly shares a deeper connection with them. Furthermore, the alien claw that Luke has been carrying exhibits signs of life.
Invasion Season 2 Episode 1 Review
This new season of Invasion takes us deeper into the fallout, into the aftermath of the alien invasion we saw in the debut season. It combines narratives of tension, of world governments on the brink of collapse, of anarchist uprisings that operate clandestinely.
With characters like Aneesha, a widow in grief who becomes a protector due to the circumstances, Luke, who somehow has a link with the invaders, brings new layers of depth to this story.
With Clark and his rebels, coupled with Mitsuki’s work at the alien spacecraft, Season 2 poses to be one full of suspense and intensity. We will see how it goes.
