As the newest Christopher Nolan movie, Oppenheimer is making a buzz around, viewers have taken a special interest in the plot where the character is seemingly affair an affair with psychiatrist Jean Tatlock ( played by Florence Pugh). As the alleged affair story has created a stir around, people are curious whether it is based on a true story or not.
Turns out that Oppenheimer did have an affair with Tatlock while he was working on the Manhattan Project in real life as well. Not only that, but Oppenheimer himself confirmed in an early interview that he spent the night with Tatlock back in 1943. So it seems like Oppenheimer was unfaithful to his wife.
However, it has been revealed that Jean Tatlock was not the only woman that Oppenheimer had a romantic connection with outside his marriage to Kitty. The scientist allegedly also had an affair with Ruth Sherman Tolman. Tolman was ten what’s older than Oppenheimer and was a psychologist who worked for the Office of Strategic Services. She was married to Richard Tolman.
Who Was Jean Tatlock?
Jean Tatlock was a psychiatrist, and she recently came into the spotlight after Florence Pugh played her in Nolan’s newest movie, Oppenheimer. Oppenheimer first met psychiatrist Jean Tatlock during his teaching years at the University of California, Berkeley, back in the 1930s. The two allegedly met through a landlady, who was also a member of the Communist Party as well.

The scientist opened up about their relationship as he recalled how he began to court Jean, and they grew close to each other while admitting that they were at least twice close enough to marriage to think of themselves as engaged. Had been very much involved with one another, and there was still very deep feeling when they saw each other.
However, he revealed that he saw her rarely between 1939 and her death in 1944. Sadly enough, Jean Tatlock died by suicide in 1944, although there has been some speculation about her death. Many even claimed that the psychiatrist was murdered.
Was Oppenheimer Married?
Oppenheimer married Kitty back in 1940 after she became pregnant. There has been a scandal regarding this as Kitty herself was married already to Richard Harrison at the time, but she later divorced him during the pregnancy.
They welcomed two children, Peter and Toni. Kitty Oppenheimer’s story has attracted considered media attention as it has been a scandalous one as it was rumored that Kitty struggles with drinking issues and would often inflict self-harm and even allegedly took pills to the point where she would fall sick.
