Being able to take a serious situation, especially one that is life or death related, and make a hilarious comedy out of it, either in real life or through a show, sounds kind of insensitive and immature but also really fun and interesting. The Australian murder mystery and comedy titled Darby and Joan is something similar.
The show is basically about two lonesome old people, one, a nurse who is widowed, and second, a retired policeman and detective with his beloved dog as his only friend. These two bump into each other accidentally and embark on a hilarious journey to figure out the mystery that is the nurse’s husband’s death.
The main characters of the show are played by Greta Scacci, who is cast as the English nurse, and Bryan Brown, who has been cast as the retired Australian detective, alongside Caroline Gillmer, cast as Denise. The show has a small cast who share great chemistry with each other along with the ability to match the other’s comedic timing.
The show is great to watch when you feel low on energy because watching Joan and Darby go about the town trying to resolve a murder mystery feels much like a reminder that there is no age limit to doing things and that we are never really late or early to do things, but always on time.
The two strangers cross each other’s paths, develop a platonic bond, and go on a spree to solve a murder case. If this does not sound like a perfectly cozy watch for the winter, then to be honest, we do not know what it is.
How Many Seasons Are There In Darby And Joan?
In Darby And Joan premiered on August 8th, 2022, and has since then only released one season. The first season garnered great positive reviews from fans and critics, and it was definitely a success, but there has been no confirmed news of the show coming out with a season two.
This is not to say that the show has been canceled or that it has been done and brushed under the carpet. The makers of the show have given no hint if there will be a second season, let only mention a date of release. So, fans will just have to make do with the eight episodes of the one and only season of the show for now.
Is It Worth Watching?
The show has cozy vibes, a slight sweet romantic tension between the two leads, bickering that will only give brilliant comeback ideas, beautiful landscapes and scenery in the background, and quirky side characters that are so much fun to watch.
The first episode may seem a bit slow to you first, but it is done only to set the scene and the story in motion, which only gets better from there. The two characters bicker with each other, but it is not meant to be taken seriously because, under all of the bickering and teasing, there is growing respect and affection that the two share for each other.
Joan and Darby share an amazing on-screen chemistry, and their scenes will literally warm your heart. And to keep you engaged, every episode brings to their door a brand new mystery which, when you look at the bigger picture, relates back to the main storyline of the characters.
Since the actors in their real life have worked in the industry for a very long time, they have a certain way around the camera that looks extremely natural and relaxed; their relationship on screen is also very easy on the eyes.
The two hard carry the entire series, and we are here for it. The world is already full of high school love stories or college romances, or just about any story that has younger actors in the main cast, so we believe you should take our advice and give this beautiful story a chance.
