Broadway made an official announcement revival of ‘Purlie Victorious: A Non-Confederate Romp Through the Cotton Patch’ by Ossie Davis comedy. It features Leslie Odom Jr. and the preview will begin on September 07, Thursday at the Music Box Theatre. And the release date is yet to announce.
However, they also announced complete casting details along with Odom. The revival will feature actors like Vanessa Bell Calloway, Noah Pyzik, and Noah Robbins. Also, Billy Eugene Jones, Heather Alicia Sims, Jay O. Sanders, Kara Young, and Bill Timoney. It will be directed by Kenny Leon.
As Broadway previously announced, the tony awardee Leslie Odom Jr. will play the title role. Odom will be seen as Purlie Victorious Judson, a traveling black preacher who returns to his hometown in Georgia to save the church community. He puts efforts into saving the enslaved people who are closer to the plantation. He also reclaims his inheritance and gets back the church. Leslie also joins the revival production led by Jeffer Richards, Jacob Soroken Porter, Hunter Arnold, Kayla Greenspan, and Irene Gandy.

The lead actor Odom Jr said that Ossie Davis gave an American hero in Purlie Judson to the American theatre. And he stated that he had loved this piece and its author, Mr. Davis, for well over half his life. Odom Jr. also applauded Davis’s writing, integrity, and acting skill.

He further expressed how thrilled he is to be part of the revival company. Odom pages are filled with joy and rhythm, laughter and hope.
