British drama series, Without Sin, is a dark psychological thriller that gets you engrossed in its slow-paced yet intense storyline and skillful acting. Starring Vicky McClure and Johnny Harris, this British Academy Award-nominated series creates a dense and mysterious environment for its viewers, a factor that adds to its already captivating plot.
First seen on television on 28th December 2022, Without Sin was created by Frances Poletti as a four-part mini-series that documents the journey of Stella as she tries to finally seek closure for her daughter, Maisy’s murder. At first, we see that Stella tries to deal with Maisy’s death by leaving her old job and working as an Uber driver late at night. She and her husband Paul split after the death as the marriage was no longer working after such a traumatic event. Stella even leaves her old home to keep herself sane.
Charles, the murder convict behind Maisy’s death sends a recording to Stella and Paul and asks for a meeting. Since Paul had already moved on with his life, Stella decides to meet up with Charles herself. She arranges a meeting with Charles with the help of Bobbi Carter, who was already trying to convince her to meet Charles to heal and fully move on.
What Stella didn’t know was that she was going to be now involved in one of the strangest sets of events that start right after the meeting, as Charles lets her know that Maisy was already dead when he found her and now she had to help another girl that was about to face the same fate as Maisy. The plot gets very interesting soon afterward, but as with almost all psychological thrillers, it does take time for the show to start making sense and reach a suitable pace.
Without Sin: Filming Locations
Besides the dramatic plot, Without Sin also features some good and melancholy spots that fit right into its expected aesthetic. Filming for this Vicky McClure starring show began back in 2021, with the crew of Without Sin being spotted in various places in England. The major filming location for Without Sin, however, is believed to be the city of Nottingham in England.
Nottingham, England
Back in October 2021, the cast of Without Sin, including Vicky McClure, had set up a base that was near the A52 Bardills Island. Most scenes were filmed at the Nottingham City Centre, which is considered to be the heart of the city. Actress Vicky McClure also posted her updates on social media platforms where she can be seen filming for the show in areas around the Royal Center and the Cornerhouse.
Some of the gritty scenes from Without Sin took place in Forest Road West of Nottingham. Forest Recreation Ground, which is a fresh and open space located in the city was also featured in the series. This place sets at a mile’s distance from Nottingham City Centre, and both of these places were able to provide good filming spots for Without Sin’s crew. Asides from these locations, we also see glimpses of well-known places around Nottingham like the Meadow Lane Stadium and the city’s biggest shopping hub, the Victoria Centre.
Actor Vicky McClure had expressed her desire to film in Nottingham previously, and with Without Sin making that dream come true, Vicky was now looking forward to the success of the drama series. Most of the crew of this show was from Nottingham, which is why they were able to choose the perfect spots to get the mood of the TV series across the screen.
You may not know this, but Nottingham is not new to being featured in TV shows or movies, as the place has also been the prime filming spot for The Dark Knight Rises, Weekend, Bronson, and EastEnders. The city is filled with diverse architecture, ranging from old and historic cottages and homes to fully developed city settings. Since Without Sin is supposed to be dark and gloomy, Nottingham just seems like the perfect place for it.
