Welcome to the wild and wacky world of the Betoota Advocate, a satirical media that dares to blur the lines between fact and fiction, leaving its audience both bewildered and roaring with laughter. Nestled in the heartland of Sydney, it takes its name from the deserted regional town of Betoota, Queensland. This fictional outback town has become the epicenter of irreverent humor and razor-sharp satire, cleverly crafted by a team of comedic masterminds.
At the heart of The Betoota Advocate’s uproaring success stand its brilliant founders, Clancy Overell and Errol Parker, a dynamic duo whose audacity and quick wit have catapulted them to satirical stardom.
With its audacious headlines, tongue-in-cheek articles, and an unmistakable flair for storytelling, The Betoota Advocate has morphed from a humble online publication to a cultural phenomenon that leaves no sacred cow unturned. It transcends the boundaries of traditional journalism, fearlessly poking fun at politicians, celebrities, and societal norms with a unique blend of wit, absurdity, and a healthy dose of cheekiness.

The Betoota Advocate is up with a TV show
The actual individuals behind The Betoota Advocate, Archer Hamilton, presenting Clancy Overell, and Charles Single presenting Errol Parker, have insisted on being interviewed in character, as they always do for media engagements. However, when they arrive at the Kinselas in Taylor Square, they appear visibly anxious. This is because they are in the final stages of their latest endeavor, a four-part docuseries titled “The Betoota Advocate Presents”. The series made its debut on Wednesday on Paramount+ following an extravagant outback glam-themed launch party at Randwick Ritz.
The Betoota Advocate coming as a TV show is a big step
The television series marks a significant milestone for the Betoota team, which originally launched as a website in 2014 and quickly became a beloved news outlet during the era of Scotty from Marketing. Over the years, many people have suggested that a TV show would be the logical next step for Betoota.
However, Clancy Overell, one of the founders, explains that the typical format of the news delivery on screen often translates into a panel show, which is not aligned with their brand. He states that while people have expected them to present the news and offer witty remarks afterward, that format doesn’t truly represent their unique style.
Initially, ABC expressed interest in collaborating with the Betoota Advocate team, but the founders decided to sever ties with the network. “For anyone who does this stuff, the top goal was always the ABC,” says Parker. However, he expresses relief that they no longer have to pursue that path, as they made the decision to part ways with the network.
The origin of The Betoota Advocate
The Betoota Advocate website was established in 2014 by journalist Archer Hamilton and Charles Single. Their collaboration on the idea of Betoota Advocate was sparked when they crossed paths with the publisher Piers Grove during their careers in the media industry.
Charles Single, previously a writer for The Canberra Times, had unfortunately lost his job due to a wave of staff reductions at the newspaper. Meanwhile, Archer Hamilton had grown disenchanted with his work in political campaigning for NGO after a brief period as a newsreader at Hill FM. They teamed up with Grove to bring The Betoota Advocate website to life.
The Betoota Advocate, as well as their PR consultancy firm Three Rivers, is managed by a trio in Alexandria, Sydney. Within the publication, Hamilton and Single assumed the roles of writers, using their pen-names, Clancy Overell and Errol Parker, respectively. Interestingly they maintained their alter-egos even during public events and media engagements.
