Apple TV+’s latest thriller starring Tom Holland and Amanda Seyfried, “The Crowded Room,” takes us to the 1970s. It is a ten-part limited series developed by Akiva Goldsman based on a book titled “The Minds of Billy Milligan”. This thriller tells us the story of Danny, a boy arrested after a gunfight in the streets of New York City and is interrogated by a cop that’s trying to get to the bottom of it all.
But the more she digs, the more complex the plot becomes. Because what seemed on the surface an ordinary shooting in the mean streets of the crime-ridden Big Apple of the 1970s becomes a story of bullying, trauma, and abuse that haunts everybody and will surely send shivers down your spine. If you like shows with a cerebral tone and are a fan of Tom Holland’s work, then you shouldn’t miss him in this role because you’re in for a ride.

The show opens with the first episode depicting a New York City shooting that happened in the 1970s. The scene invites the viewer to both the past and present.
Danny faces accusations as the main suspect and struggles to come to terms with what happened. It’s unclear whether he’s responsible or not; however, Ariana, played by Sasha Lane, is a key character that may provide the answers Danny needs to prove his innocence.
The interrogator, Rya Goodwin, specializes in Danny’s case, aiming to understand his motives. Unlike other police officers, she treats him with empathy and tries to unravel the truth behind the matter.
The series takes the viewers through Danny’s traumatic childhood, highlighting the abuse he faced at home and in school. But to escape his troubles, he chooses to partner with Ariana and Yitzak, his new neighbor. Danny’s lucky breaks don’t end there; however, the events eventually become predictable as the story unfolds.
Despite the show’s best efforts at creating suspense, it fails to surprise viewers as the plot becomes too predictable too soon. Though Rya’s questioning sessions offer some insight into Danny’s actions, even the blind can see where the series is headed.
