When it comes to trap anime, most fans would wonder what that means. So before we look at a list of the top trap anime, we should first understand what that means. Trap anime is anime that includes trap characters. But since that does not clear things up, let’s proceed to look at trap anime characters.
Trap anime characters are those characters who dress in their opposite gender to a point where you would mistake them otherwise. We have seen this from characters like O’Kiku from One Piece, as we all thought that he was a girl upon his introduction. So let’s see what other anime and characters make up the list today.
Overlord: Mare Bello Fiore
Overlord has been one of the most interesting isekai anime to watch; it is not surprising to see that it has also made the top trap anime. Looking a Mare Bello Fiore, he is one character that you might confuse for a female. But in fact, it was revealed that Mare is a boy who is just cute. So this is one thing that made Overlord be on the list. We have other characters like that, though, but Mare stands out.
Mare has a shy and cowardly-looking personality which appears to be the polar opposite of his sister. Most of the time, he talks in a stuttering tone even though it is an outward guise that does not affect his loyalty to Ainz. He has the ability to carry out his duties no matter how cold-blooded they may be, and behind his shy and retiring face lies greater hostility and determination.
Assassination Classroom: Shiota Nagisa
Nagisa in the anime is calm and collected with a friendly personality, and he can be exceptionally observant and circumspect of his surroundings. He is always aware of situations that develop around him, and he tends to focus more on Korosensei, hoping that he will understand the motives of the mysterious Korosensei.
He compiles the information he has collected in his notes for reference later on, and he is noticeably more reserved and shy compared to other students in his class. He tends to think more than he talks and refers to himself as invisible because of this characteristic.
Infinite Stratos: Charlotte Dunois
While being sent as a spy by her father, her overall appearance is of a male with a long, straight, and spiky blond hair that she ties into a low ponytail. This is a rare case when it comes to trap anime because you would mostly find boys who look like girls more often. So Charlotte has been described as being a cute girl and has also been noted to look good even when she wears boys’ clothes.
She once decided to reintroduce herself to the class while wearing a slightly modified IS Academy female uniform with a shorter than normal skirt. So the IS training uniform that she wears also changes into the female version with orange edges, and it has changed from a two-piece to a one-piece suit with stockings.
Princess Jellyfish: Kuranosuke Koibuchi
One of the cross-dressing anime characters you might come across is Kuranosuke. Kuranosuke is the son of the wealthy and very political Koibuchi family. He gets by the alias “Kurako” in front of other Amars as he tries to hide his gender. He would most often than not appear wearing women’s clothing and make-up and has appeared in a wide variety of different fashionable outfits throughout the series.
He would go as far as wearing different wigs as his hobby, and unlike the rest of his family, he does not find politics more interesting than anything else in his life. He is constantly on the lookout for the address of his biological mother after having an affair with his father, hoping to see at least once more the wardrobe that she keeps.
The Idol Master: Kikuchi Makoto
Makoto Kikuchi, who is also known as the pretty boy idol, puts a spotlight on “The Idol Master Anime” as one of the top trap anime you should check out. He is also a prince of 765 productions and has more female fans than male ones making him a very popular character at her all-girls high school. He is very energetic and determined and appears as an honest girl who wishes to make himself more feminine.
As a cross-dresser, she is very confident in her dancing skills, and even though they are self-taught, she is one of the best dancers in 765 productions. She loves to do sports, and before her idol debut, she used to train at an Aikido dojo near where she lives, and this is one activity that made her strong.
Rurouni Kenshin: Honjo Kamatari
Another anime in the top trap anime with a cross-dresser. Kamatari is a member of the Juppongatana and takes pride in his womanly status, and he once reprimanded Henya for throwing bombs at him since it could damage his skin. He also tends to be flirtatious and would flirt with Yahiko, whom he called cute and stated that he could be like him if he practiced well enough.
He is in a rivalry with Yumi over who would win Shishio’s love interest but deep down, Kamaari understands that he can never compete with Yumi. He is a happy and easygoing young man and would often smile and fawn over Shishio. But while in battle, he becomes more serious and talks with a deeper and harsher tone.
Genshiken Nidaime: Kenjiro Hato
As the last of the new Genshiken members and the only male to join in. He is a fundashi, also known as a male fujoshi, and he has the same love of yaoi and boy’s love doujinshi and manga as the other fujoshi of Genshiken. His actual appearance is of a young bishounen boy with short and dark hair. Most times, he is described as having a flawless complexion, and it is attributed to his daily use of various moisturizers. He also meticulously plucks his body hair leading to his smooth and supple-looking skin.
While he is a regular boy, he dresses in typical men’s casual wear, including collar shirts and cargo pants. While he cross-dresses, he will typically wear one of several wigs and the most prominent of them being a long and thin brunette inspired by his senpai. He also dresses in very feminine clothing and garners attention from men as well as envy and jealousy from certain women.
Naruto: Haku
Haku had an androgynous appearance and was viewed as being beautiful even by boys like Naruto. But he is not as cross-dressed as he identifies himself as a boy and would mostly behave like one. Even when Naruto found out that Haku was male, he still viewed him as being prettier than Sakura. He had long black hair with pale skin and large dark brown eyes, and a slender frame.
His most normal shinobi outfit was the standard Kirigakure pinstriped outfit, which ends at his knees. Haku was a good-hearted person and was an eager shinobi and believed that a person becomes truly strong when they have someone important to them to protect. Despite his talent for battle and incredible skills and abilities, Haku did not like the need to kill others during his role as Zabuza’s pawn.
Hunter x Hunter: Pitou
At first, one would think that Pitou was a girl due to her appearance. Most people who would not pay attention to his stats would not notice until someone points it out. Because even we have gone through the entire HxH series without even realizing that. This would stand true if you are binging the show so that you quickly catch up to the anime like most of the fandom. So this undoubtedly makes HxH one of the top trap anime.
Pitou had the appearance of a humanoid cat in general and had wavy white hair. Her cat-like ears and tail were covered with yellow and white fur, and respectively, he had ruby eyes, and his knees had demarcated joints like that of an insect leg. He also had a larger than average human hands, and his clothes were a blue overcoat with six yellow buttons and cuff links.
One Piece: Ivankov
One Piece has several characters who cross-dress, and we have seen the latest one to join in being Kiku. Kiku looks completely like a woman, but in the anime’s case, Ivankov stands out as the top trap anime character. She is a very skilled grandmaster of the martial art known as the Newkama Kenpo and could even injure people as powerful as the Chief Warden Magellan.
