Toei Animation, one of Japan’s most prominent animation studios, falls under the namesake of Toei Company. Kenzo Masaoka and Zenjiro Yamamoto are two of the founding animators for the studio. They started it all the way back in 1948 and named it Japan Animated Films.

That was when a few years later, Toei stepped and purchased the entire studio, renaming it as Toei Doga Co. Finally, in 1988 the studio was renamed to its legendary name, Toei animation.

Some of their biggest anime include the Dragon Ball franchise, Digimon, Sailor Moon, One Piece, Slam Dunk, The Transformers, Saint Seiya, and many more. From this list itself, we can see how much iconic anime they have animated, Dragon Ball, One Piece, are all considered to be greats in the anime hall of fame.

1. Dragon Ball

Produced by Toei Animation, this is without a doubt their most successful project ever. From adapting Akira Toriyama’s manga of the same name, Toei went onto creating an empire. Dragon Ball, Goku, Vegeta are all household names to this day, being referenced everywhere in pop culture, from memes to movies to even music videos.

Goku and the other characters from the series has one of the biggest fan following in the world, they are known all around the globe. Yes, when we say the biggest fan following, that is also after considering all living celebrities and characters. Dragon Ball seems to have laid the foundation for a lot of other anime that followed in its path years later. From power levels to big laid out fight scenes, to some excellent character development, they did it all. A plethora of iconic moments are still referenced to this day, and these always give us goosebumps. So this legendary journey leads the duo to most of the other iconic and fan-favorite characters. The characters they stumble upon are Yamcha, Krillin, Master Roshi, Oolong, and many more. Many people haven’t watched the Dragon Ball series as they skipped directly to Dragon Ball Z, which isn’t a rational decision. This series lays most of the groundwork for the next one.

A lot of people also don’t know that a ton of the characters from the later franchises, including Krillin, Yamcha, and some others, started as enemies to Goku. So to correctly understand everyone’s backstory from the franchise, you need to look back to Dragon Ball.

2. One Piece

One of the longest-running and another huge project by Toei animation. To be honest, in our opinion, One Piece, Dragon Ball, and Naruto are considered to be the three biggest anime in the entire world. Toei Animation produced 2 of them, just from that, we know what a huge deal the company actually is.

One Piece Anime

Based on Eiichiro Oda’s manga of the same name, One Piece is an epic pirate tale that will pull us in and keep us addicted. The story mainly follows Monkey. His crew is called the Straw Hat pirates, each and every one of them with unique personalities and powers. They together embark on this epic tale to find the biggest treasure yet.

This crew of pirates is one of the most popular rosters of characters ever. When an anime or any show, in general, goes on for this long, it’s evident that a lot of people would feel bored and would fall off the hype. But not One Piece, they have been able to keep their viewer record in the Top 5 for so long, the show is still ongoing, and people watch it with the same hype they had from the beginning.

The show introduced us to the wonderful world of Japanese animation. This show is perfect for kids, every single aspect from the animation to the fun-filled storylines to the light-hearted comedy.

Digimon or Digital Monsters first came into the limelight as digital pets who would inhabit a parallel universe to Earth. So this concept of virtual pets turned into video games, movies, and anime. The hype couldn’t be stopped people just loved anything and everything that was o do with Digimon.

So with the first set of Digimon movies released, all the kids just fell in love with it. Even before the films, people loved the concept, cute pets, and whatnot just lit up everyone’s mind. So with the never-ending hype, an anime for kids based on the concept was always guaranteed.

That is when the first-ever Digimon anime came to life, The Digimon Adventure, in 1999. This anime laid the groundwork for a lot of kids’ anime follow, Digimon went down in history along with the Pokemon as one of the best kids’ show ever.

So the story follows a group of 7 kids who are teleported into the Digital World, a world where Digimon exists. Digivices are a type of phone-like device that appeared before them while at summer camp; this device was the reason that all of them got teleported into this weird and unknown world.

So hereafter meeting the Digimon, each of them befriends one of them. That is when they realized with the help of their Digivices, they can connect with the Digimon, which would cause them to Digivolve, making the monsters into very formidable creatures perfect for combat.

The seven of the kids find out that they are the chosen ones who have to save the Digital World from a lot of evil forces. There begins their epic journey, along this route, they also find crests that have the capability to improve their Digimon to the next level.

4. Sailor Moon

Now when we think of classic anime, Sailor Moon is one of the names that come first to our minds. Based on the manga written by Naoko Takeuchi, this anime is mainly targeted towards the female audience. And without a doubt, it is one of the biggest anime that is targetted towards this specific audience.

We follow the life of Usagi Sukino, who becomes Sailor Moon by obtaining the power of the Pretty Warrior. Along with the help of other Sailor Soldiers, these awesome women face off against some very powerful villains and saving the earth in the process. The anime projects a beautiful message through the life of the protagonist, showing how she transitions into a very powerful and responsible warrior from a very scared and silent student.
