Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba features a wide range of powerful fighters, from highly trained Demon Slayers to Upper Rank demons with centuries of battle experience. Some characters reveal their greatest abilities during later battles, while others show their strength almost immediately through incredible feats. Their abilities make every major confrontation unpredictable and dangerous.
Human and demon fighters also rely on very different strengths, making direct comparisons difficult. Breathing Styles, Demon Slayer Marks, regeneration, Blood Demon Arts, weapons, battle intelligence, and experience can all shape the outcome of a fight. Looking at each character at their strongest shows just how varied and formidable the series’ most powerful warriors can be.
30. KAGAYA UBUYASHIKI
Leadership in the Demon Slayer Corps was not defined by fighting ability alone, and Kagaya Ubuyashiki was a clear example of that. Rather than relying on strength, he guided the Corps through empathy, wisdom, and a deep understanding of his soldiers. The Hashira respected his decisions and remained loyal to his command because of the trust he had built with them. His gentle personality and steady guidance allowed him to lead the Corps effectively despite never taking part in combat himself.
Kagaya knew that his time was limited because of the curse on his family. When Muzan came to his estate, Kagaya used his own life as part of a plan to weaken Muzan and give the Demon Slayers a chance to attack. His sacrifice also gave Tamayo the opportunity to use her medicine against Muzan.
29. KANAO TSUYURI
Before becoming a capable Demon Slayer, Kanao struggled to trust her own instincts and make decisions independently. Her traumatic childhood had left her emotionally withdrawn, but her life gradually changed after Shinobu and Kanae took her in and helped her learn to recognize and express her own feelings. Her combat style reflects that same sense of control, as Flower Breathing relies on quick movements, sharp accuracy, and carefully timed attacks.
Her sharp eyesight becomes one of her biggest strengths in battle. She uses this ability during her fight against Doma, allowing her to follow his movements and find an opening against the Upper Rank Two demon. Her battle also becomes an important moment because she finally makes a major decision for herself.
Kanao’s growth as a fighter is closely connected to her emotional growth. She becomes stronger as she learns to trust her own choices and express what she feels. By the end of the story, Kanao is both a skilled Demon Slayer and a more confident person.
28. INOSUKE HASHIBIRA
Raised far from conventional training, Inosuke developed Beast Breathing entirely on his own. His time in the mountains shaped the way he fights, teaching him to depend on instinct, heightened senses, and an animal-like awareness of his surroundings. As a result, his movements are unpredictable and unconventional, often making it difficult for opponents to anticipate his next attack.
He also fights with two serrated Nichirin swords and uses them in ways that normal swordsmen would not expect. Inosuke can change his attacks during a battle and create new techniques when he needs them. His strange but effective fighting style makes him a difficult opponent for powerful demons.
27. ZENITSU AGATSUMA
Zenitsu is the only Demon Slayer character who relies almost entirely on one Breathing Style form. He only uses Thunder Breathing, First Form: Thunderclap and Flash, but he has mastered it to an incredible level. His speed becomes so fast that his movements can seem almost invisible to his opponents.
His battle with Kaigaku shows how far that training has taken him. Zenitsu creates his own Seventh Form, Flaming Thunder God, and uses it to defeat Kaigaku after he becomes the new Upper Rank Six. His victory shows that mastering one technique can be more powerful than knowing many techniques without the same level of skill.
26. Tamayo
What makes Tamayo dangerous is not physical power, but the knowledge she has accumulated over centuries. Her long existence as a demon, combined with her resistance to Muzan’s control, has allowed her to study demon physiology in ways few characters have been able to. While she cannot match the Hashira or Upper Ranks in direct combat, her understanding of demons gives her a unique strategic advantage that strength alone cannot overcome.
Her Blood Demon Art allows her to manipulate blood and create effects that interfere with perception and consciousness, giving her useful tools despite her limited combat experience. More importantly, Tamayo spends years researching ways to weaken or reverse Muzan’s influence. Her work becomes crucial during the final battle, where the drugs she develops with Shinobu help strip away Muzan’s advantages and accelerate his physical deterioration.
25. Enmu
Few demons use psychological attacks as well as Enmu. Instead of fighting with brute force, the Lower Rank demon uses sleep to take his enemies out of the fight. His Blood Demon Art attacks the mind, making him dangerous even without physical strength.
The Mugen Train battle demonstrates how effective that approach can be. Enmu manipulates passengers into infiltrating Tanjiro and the others’ dreams, forcing them to confront artificial versions of their deepest desires. The plan nearly works because the victims are not simply fighting an enemy. They are fighting the temptation to remain inside a comforting illusion.
Although his physical strength is lower than that of the higher-ranking demons, he makes up for it by turning Mugen Train into part of his attack. After merging with the train, he can spread his influence over a large area and attack his enemies from different directions. His plan begins to fall apart when Tanjiro understands the dream and finds a way to escape it. Enmu’s abilities are dangerous when his plan works, but they become much less effective against opponents who can quickly understand and counter them.
24. Daki
While Enmu uses sleep to attack his enemies through their dreams, Daki relies more on her speed, range, and flexible obi. Her obi can act like extra limbs, letting her attack from different directions and control a wide area. This makes her especially dangerous against Demon Slayers who struggle to get close to her. Her strong regeneration also allows her to recover quickly from injuries during battle.
Her status as an Upper Rank demon also gives her physical abilities far beyond the average demon. She can survive attacks that would instantly kill a human and recover from serious injuries with ease. Her connection to Gyutaro makes her especially dangerous because killing her alone does not end the Entertainment District battle.
23. Rui
Ufotable makes Rui’s Blood Demon Art look especially dangerous through the anime’s sharp animation and glowing thread effects. His spider threads move quickly and can cut, trap, and attack opponents from a distance. The visual style makes it easy to see why getting close to Rui is so difficult.
During the Mount Natagumo battle, Rui shows how effective these threads can be against skilled Demon Slayers. They are strong enough to damage Nichirin swords, forcing Tanjiro to push himself just to defend against them. Even his Water Breathing techniques struggle to deal with Rui’s powerful attacks.
22. Genya Shinazugawa
No one should judge a book by its cover, and Genya is a good example of that. During the Final Selection arc, his rude behavior toward Kanata Ubuyashiki can make him seem like an unpleasant character, and it is easy to understand why some fans disliked him at first. However, his harsh attitude hides a much more caring side, and his ability to eat demon flesh gives him temporary demonic powers, including greater strength and regeneration.
Genya’s unusual ability becomes especially useful during the fight against Kokushibo, allowing him to survive serious injuries and continue helping the other Demon Slayers. He also uses a shotgun with Nichirin ammunition, giving him a fighting style that is very different from the sword-focused Hashira. Genya is not as fast or skilled as the Hashira, and his abilities depend on consuming demon flesh. Still, his growth shows that his rough behavior does not tell the whole story, and his actions later reveal how much he cares about protecting others.
21. Nezuko Kamado
Nezuko is one of the main reasons Demon Slayer feels different from many other demon-hunting stories. Her transformation gives her incredible demonic strength while she refuses to harm humans or rely on human blood. She can also change her size, heal quickly, and use Blood Demon Art flames that hurt demons without harming people.
Her fight with Daki shows how powerful Nezuko can become when she loses control of her emotions. She takes heavy damage, quickly regenerates, and enters a more dangerous form that greatly increases her strength. However, this power comes with a risk because Nezuko can struggle to control herself in this state.
Nezuko’s Blood Demon Art is especially useful because her flames can burn away certain demonic effects and weaken demon abilities. Her ability to survive sunlight later makes her even more unusual among demons, although it does not automatically make her a better fighter. Compared with the strongest Hashira and Upper Rank demons, she still lacks their experience and refined combat skills.
20. Kaigaku
Despite becoming an Upper Rank demon, Kaigaku never had the time or experience needed to reach the level of the more established demons. His difficulty controlling his emotions also affected his ability to fight effectively. His battle with Zenitsu highlights an important weakness: possessing greater power means little without the skill and discipline to use it properly. Kaigaku’s brief time as Upper Six ultimately leaves him far behind the most formidable demons.
Kaigaku represents one of the clearest examples of how talent can become dangerous when combined with the wrong priorities. As a former student of Jigoro Kuwajima, he received training in Thunder Breathing, but his path diverged sharply from Zenitsu’s after he became a demon.
His demonic transformation gives his Thunder Breathing techniques far greater destructive potential. Kaigaku can combine swordsmanship with demonic abilities, creating attacks that are much harder to survive than those of an ordinary practitioner. His position as the replacement Upper Six confirms that Muzan considered him powerful enough to fill a vacant place among the Twelve Kizuki.
19. Nakime
While most Upper Rank demons use their Blood Demon Arts to directly hurt their opponents, Nakime uses hers to control the battlefield. Her biwa allows her to move rooms, change locations, separate enemies, and trap Demon Slayers inside the Infinity Castle. This makes her extremely useful to Muzan because she can keep his enemies divided and make it difficult for them to reach him.
During the Infinity Castle Arc, Nakime’s ability helps Muzan’s plan by splitting the Demon Slayers into different groups. She can send fighters to different parts of the castle and prevent them from easily joining forces. Nakime may not have the same attacking power as other Upper Ranks, but her ability to control the entire battlefield makes her a valuable part of Muzan’s strategy.
18. Shinobu Kocho
Demon Slayer is not only known for its action and animation, but also for giving its characters emotional backstories. Shinobu’s past shows why she became a Demon Slayer after demons killed her parents and later took the life of her older sister, Kanae. That loss gave Shinobu a strong reason to fight demons and protect others from suffering the same fate.
She cannot cut off a demon’s head with a normal Nichirin sword because she does not have enough physical strength. Instead, she uses a special sword to inject wisteria poison into demons, making speed and precision the most important parts of her fighting style. Her approach allows her to defeat demons without relying on raw strength.
Her battle with Doma shows both the power and limits of her strategy. His strength and resistance are too great for her normal poison to defeat him, so Shinobu creates a plan that allows her body to become part of the poison itself. Her sacrifice gives Kanao and Inosuke the chance they need to defeat Doma.
17. Gyutaro
If anyone wants to see how an anime can make a hated character more understandable, watch Demon Slayer. Gyutaro was introduced as one of the Upper Six demons and fights Tanjiro, Tengen, and the others in the Entertainment District. His poisoned sickles, Blood Demon Art, and fast healing make him very dangerous, while his strong bond with Daki makes the fight even harder.
Gyutaro can attack from close range while also sending his poisoned blood across the battlefield, forcing Tanjiro and Tengen to defend from different directions. His greatest weakness is how deeply he cares about Daki, because his anger can make him reckless when she is in danger. His tragic past also helps explain why he became so bitter.
16. Hantengu
At first glance, Hantengu seems like a weak and insignificant opponent, which is exactly what makes him so dangerous. His true body is small, timid, and remarkably difficult to locate, while his Blood Demon Art creates powerful manifestations whenever he is attacked. Each manifestation possesses its own abilities, forcing opponents to deal with multiple threats at once. Instead of a simple one-on-one fight, battling Hantengu becomes a drawn-out struggle to find and defeat his hidden main body.
His clones, Sekido, Karaku, Aizetsu, and Urogi, each have different powers, making Hantengu difficult to fight. Zohakuten later combines their abilities into a much stronger form, forcing Mitsuri and the others to face several enemies at once. Hantengu’s biggest advantage is how confusing his Blood Demon Art makes the fight. His enemies must survive powerful attacks while also trying to find his real body.
15. Gyokko
One of the most unusual aspects of Gyokko is the way his personality and combat abilities complement each other. His obsession with creating what he considers art is reflected in his Blood Demon Art, which lets him emerge from pots, summon bizarre aquatic creatures, and strike from unexpected positions. This unconventional arsenal makes him hard to read and gives him plenty of opportunities to dictate how a battle unfolds.
His Blood Demon Art helped Muzan locate the hidden Swordsmith Village. By traveling through his pots, Gyokko could search for places that were difficult for other demons to reach. This made him useful for finding the village and planning the attack.
14. Tengen Uzui
Even though Tanjiro defeats Gyutaro and Zenitsu and Inosuke defeat Daki, Tengen is still the MVP of the Entertainment District battle. He fights an Upper Rank demon while dealing with serious injuries, poison, and the loss of one hand. His dual Nichirin blades, bombs, shinobi training, and sharp hearing help him keep fighting when most people would have already given up.
Tengen’s Musical Score technique also helps him understand Gyutaro’s attacks and find openings in his movements. His strength comes from more than physical power because he can use his senses, experience, and quick thinking during a difficult fight. Even after retiring as the Sound Hashira, Tengen continues to help the Demon Slayer Corps by protecting Nezuko.
13. Kyojuro Rengoku
Some characters remain memorable even with little time on screen, and Rengoku is the best example. His early death does not stop him from becoming one of the most important Hashira in Tanjiro’s journey. His fight with Akaza shows why he earned so much respect despite having a short time in the story.
Rengoku uses Flame Breathing and strong sword skills to fight Akaza, even though Upper Three has far greater strength and regeneration. He keeps fighting after suffering deadly injuries and even manages to hold Akaza in place for a moment. Rengoku does not have a Demon Slayer Mark or other special power, so his performance comes down to his training, courage, and determination.
12. Mitsuri Kanroji
A major part of Mitsuri’s appeal is how naturally her personality carries over into her combat style. Love Breathing gives her movements a graceful yet unpredictable quality, while her unusually long and flexible Nichirin sword allows her to reach enemies from difficult angles. With the ability to deliver fast, repeated strikes, Mitsuri can overwhelm opponents in a way that few other Hashira can replicate.
Mitsuri’s unusual muscle strength gives her far more physical power than her appearance suggests. She can move quickly, bend her body easily, and avoid attacks that would be difficult for other swordsmen to escape. Her fight against Zohakuten shows how much punishment she can take while continuing to protect the others.
After awakening her Demon Slayer Mark, Mitsuri becomes even stronger and manages to keep Zohakuten busy for a long time. She may not have Gyomei’s experience or Sanemi’s battle skills, but her strength, speed, flexibility, and special sword make her a difficult opponent. Her fighting style proves that Mitsuri’s unusual appearance is matched by equally unusual abilities.
11. Muichiro Tokito
He became a Hashira at a very young age. He quickly proved that he could fight demons far stronger than ordinary ones. His Mist Breathing becomes even stronger after he awakens the Demon Slayer Mark.
Muichiro’s fight with Gyokko shows how quickly he can grow during a battle. Gyokko first traps and nearly kills him, but after awakening his mark, Muichiro turns the fight around and defeats Upper Five. His speed and precise movements make it difficult for Gyokko to keep up with him.
10. Giyu Tomioka
While other Demon Slayers and Hashira use established Breathing styles, Giyu creates his own Water Breathing Eleventh Form: Dead Calm. His quiet personality matches this technique because he stays calm and uses very little movement during a fight. Dead Calm allows him to block incoming attacks with careful and precise movements.
Giyu’s Water Breathing is already highly skilled, but Dead Calm gives him a strong defensive option. He can use it to stop many attacks at once without wasting energy. This makes him difficult to overwhelm, especially when facing fast and aggressive demons.
9. Obanai Iguro
Obanai’s relationship with Mitsuri is one of the most emotional parts of his character. He cares deeply about her and continues fighting alongside her during the final battle against Muzan. His serpent-shaped Nichirin sword also gives him a unique fighting style, allowing his attacks to move in unusual directions.
Kaburamaru helps Obanai understand his surroundings and track enemy movements during battle. He later awakens the Demon Slayer Mark, gains access to the Transparent World, and turns his Nichirin blade red. Even after suffering serious injuries, he continues fighting against Muzan.
Obanai’s final battle shows how much he relies on skill and determination. He keeps adapting to Muzan’s attacks while working with the other Demon Slayers. His strength comes from his accuracy, awareness, and ability to keep fighting even when the battle becomes overwhelming.
8. Tanjiro Kamado
Even though Tanjiro is the main character of Demon Slayer, he is not the strongest fighter in his own series. He starts as a skilled but inexperienced swordsman and slowly improves by learning Water Breathing, Hinokami Kagura, and later abilities like the Demon Slayer Mark. His biggest strength is his ability to learn from every difficult fight and keep getting better.
His fight against Akaza shows how much Tanjiro has grown. He uses the Selfless State and Transparent World to hide his fighting spirit and land attacks that would have been impossible for him earlier. His improved sword skills allow him to fight an Upper Rank demon on a much higher level.
Tanjiro also pushes himself during the final battle against Muzan despite being badly injured and exhausted. He keeps fighting even when his body is close to giving up. He may not have the experience of the strongest demons, but his fast growth makes him one of the most important fighters in the series.
7. Sanemi Shinazugawa
Behind Sanemi’s rough and aggressive personality is a fighter who knows exactly how to use his strengths. His Wind Breathing relies on rapid, forceful attacks that can come from multiple directions, making it difficult for demons to defend themselves. His rare Marechi blood adds another advantage by attracting and disorienting demons, further enhancing the effectiveness of his relentless combat style.
Behind Sanemi’s hostility toward Genya is a brother who is deeply afraid of losing someone he loves. He keeps Genya at a distance and treats him harshly because he believes becoming a Demon Slayer will only put his younger brother in greater danger. Although his behavior can seem cruel, Sanemi’s anger is driven by concern and fear. His inability to openly express his feelings makes his attempts to protect Genya look much harsher than they truly are.
6. Gyomei Himejima
There is a striking contrast between Gyomei’s personality and his abilities as a warrior. Away from combat, he is compassionate, patient, and especially protective of those who cannot defend themselves. Once a fight begins, however, his immense physical strength and unwavering concentration become clear, allowing him to stand among the most powerful and dangerous Hashira.
Gyomei fights with a chained axe and flail instead of a normal sword. His blindness does not stop him from sensing his surroundings through his sharp hearing and other senses. His unique weapon also gives him a longer range and makes his attacks harder to predict.
5. Akaza
For many viewers, Akaza became more than just the demon who defeated Rengoku after his past was finally revealed. His story as Hakuji showed that his life was once defined by hardship, love, and loss rather than cruelty. He had been a human who wanted to protect the people closest to him, making his transformation into a demon and the person he eventually became far more tragic.
His fighting style reflects his strong desire to become powerful. His Compass Needle helps him sense an opponent’s fighting spirit and predict their movements. Combined with his speed, martial arts, regeneration, and powerful shockwaves, it makes him a very dangerous opponent.
4. Doma
Doma’s cheerful and friendly nature hides how dangerous he really is. He smiles, jokes, and speaks kindly, but he does not truly understand human emotions. This calm and empty personality makes his cruelty even more disturbing.
His Blood Demon Art allows him to create powerful ice attacks, clones, and large structures that can overwhelm his enemies. He can control the battlefield while attacking from different directions. In addition, he has a strange preference for eating women because he believes they provide more nourishment than men. He also stands out among the Upper Rank demons because he does not seem afraid of Muzan.
3. Kokushibo
Kokushibo’s centuries of experience make him one of the most skilled demon swordsmen in the series. Becoming a demon gives him great strength and regeneration, but his sword skills remain his biggest advantage. He still uses the swordsmanship he developed as Michikatsu Tsugikuni.
Moon Breathing creates crescent-shaped attacks that cover the battlefield from different angles. His many eyes give him incredible vision, making it easier to track his opponents and react to their movements. With his wide range of attacks, Kokushibo makes it extremely difficult for even skilled Demon Slayers to predict his next move.
2. Muzan Kibutsuji
Elegance is the last quality most people would expect from the series’ most dangerous demon, yet that is exactly what makes his appearance so deceptive. His pale complexion, dark hair, and stylish clothing have even drawn comparisons to Michael Jackson. Beneath this polished exterior, however, lies the first demon and creator of nearly all the others, a ruthless and selfish figure who will sacrifice anyone to ensure his own survival.
Muzan has incredible strength, speed, regeneration, and the ability to change his body into deadly forms. During the final battle, his flesh whips and tendrils attack from many directions, making it difficult for the Demon Slayers to get close. It takes the combined efforts of many fighters, Tamayo’s medicine, and the coming sunrise to finally bring him down.
1. Yoriichi Tsugikuni
Yoriichi is the only person who defeated Muzan on his own and came closer than anyone else to killing him. Their battle left Muzan badly injured and forced him to live with the fear of facing Yoriichi again for centuries. This single fight shows just how far Yoriichi’s strength was above even the most powerful demons.
Yoriichi created Sun Breathing, which later became the foundation for other Breathing Styles. He could also use the Transparent World and Selfless State, giving him incredible awareness and control in battle. Even in old age, his swordsmanship was strong enough to overwhelm Kokushibo, showing why he remains the strongest Demon Slayer in the series.
