Jon Turteltaub’s 1992 film, 3 Ninjas, is the only film from the series that was released by Touchstone Pictures. Starring Michael Treanor, Max Elliot, and Chad Power, the movie made it to the list of one of the most successful films of 1992.
The plot of this entertaining action-adventure film centers on three brothers, Samuel, Jeffrey, and Michael, who end up visiting their Japanese grandfather for holidays and learning martial arts, more specifically, the art of Ninjutsu from him. Mori Tanaka’s teachings unexpectedly turn out to be very helpful as the children are caught up in a dangerous mess that they can only escape with the help of their sharp Ninja moves.
The cast and crew of 3 Ninjas consists of Michael Treanor as Samuel, Max Elliot Shade plays Jeffrey, and Chad Power stars in the role of Michael. The grandfather, Mori Tanaka, is portrayed by Victor Wong. Rand Kingsley stars in the role of Hugo Snyder, while Alan McRae plays Sam Douglas.
3 Ninjas: About The Film
3 Ninjas was a movie that walked so Home Alone could run. Both films have similar storylines, where we see small kids fighting fully grown adults and winning against them.
The plot of 3 Ninjas, 1992 revolves around three siblings who are sent to live with their grandpa, Mori Tanaka, for the holidays. To keep them entertained, Tanaka decides to train the boys in the art of Ninjutsu, giving them new names like Rocky, Colt, and Tum-Tum.
The Douglas family’s dad, Sam, is busy working on a mission where he has to go undercover to stop the illegal sale of dangerous weapons. The nefarious Hugo Snyder is the mastermind behind the plan, which is a huge coincidence since Snyder turns out to be Tanaka’s old business partner.
Seeing Douglas trying to catch him, Snyder decides to ask Tanaka to stop Sam, but he doesn’t listen. 3 Ninjas then shows us the intense comedic battle that the Douglas children get involved in against Hugo Snyder.
3 Ninjas: Filming Locations
With Richard Michalak as the cinematographer, major filming for 3 Ninjas 1992 has occurred in various locations around California, USA. On a side note, the main actors of 3 Ninjas used to organize a screening of this entertaining film at Ventura County, which is where some of the scenes of 3 Ninjas were filmed.
California, USA:
California is nothing new to being a filming location since movies and TV shows like Ahsoka, Oppenheimer, Blue Beetle, Barbie, and Game of Thrones were all filmed here. A location that we see in 3 Ninjas is the house at 580 Myrtle Court, Oak Park.
The 2990 square feet home is where we see much of the beginning scenes of 3 Ninjas involving the children. Unfortunately, the original structure that we see in this 1992 film no longer exists after a terrible fire wiped it out.
The school where the three children study is the Oak Hill Elementary School, located at 1010 Kanan Rd, Oak Park. Although a less populated place, Oak Park is home to famous personalities like Doja Cat, Zachary Gordon, Peyton List, and Zack Thornton.
One of the most significant locations throughout the 3 Ninjas was the place where the children stayed, the Mori Tanaka residence. Grandpa Mori’s beautiful cabin was located at the Topanga Canyon in California.
Topanga State Park is filled with picturesque mountains, open grassland, and dense wilderness. The Topanga Canyon is the best place to be if you’re looking for a little remote and rural retreat from the main cities in California.
This Canyon used to be a popular filming location back in the 80s and 90s, with films like Fast Times at Ridgemont High and The Doors being filmed here. Another location from 3 Ninjas is the Harbor, which is located in San Pedro, LA.
With a unique and exciting collection of restaurants and places to explore, San Pedro is a less populated neighborhood located in LA. The whole neighborhood has urban suburban-themed homes and has become a cruise center.
Aside from its harbor, which was featured in 3 Ninjas, San Pedro is also home to the Point Fermin Lighthouse, which is a place worth checking out if you’re looking for somewhere fun and adventurous.
