The Matrix co-creator Lilly Wachowski has joined Making a Bridesmaid, an upcoming murder-bachelorette comedy written and directed by Molly Ratermann. Wachowski will serve as an executive producer through her production company, Anarchists United, as the completed film prepares to launch worldwide sales at the American Film Market (AFM).
Announced on October 27, 2026, the project combines horror, dark comedy, and satire to explore the competitive social expectations surrounding weddings and female friendship. Inspired by the aesthetic of 1980s films, Making a Bridesmaid turns a seemingly perfect bachelorette celebration into a deadly competition, with guests fighting for coveted bridesmaid positions to stay alive.
The film has completed post-production and was shot on location in Lake Tahoe, California. Finn Bruce and Belstone Pictures are handling global sales, with the project set to be presented to potential buyers at AFM. Festival premiere plans and further sales details are expected to be announced later.
Wachowski’s involvement brings an established genre filmmaker behind The Matrix and Bound to Ratermann’s unconventional independent feature. The partnership also reflects Anarchists United’s focus on supporting distinctive science fiction, thriller, action, and horror projects.
Molly Ratermann Explores Identity and Social Pressure
Ratermann, who also stars in the film, said Wachowski’s support is meaningful because of her history of challenging conventional storytelling. She described Making a Bridesmaid as a film that uses an outrageous premise to examine the roles women are expected to play and the lengths people will go to in order to feel accepted.
“Having Lilly, who’s spent her career pushing against convention, champion this film is an incredible honor and a dream come true,”
Ratermann said in the announcement.
Anarchists United similarly praised Ratermann’s approach to combining bachelorette culture with horror and dark comedy. The company said the story uses identity, social expectations, and the pressure to belong as key themes, while turning a familiar celebration into an unpredictable genre experience.
Ratermann was previously head of development at London-based Film Soho and was named one of the International Screenwriters’ Association’s Top 25 Screenwriters to Watch. Her earlier Western short, The Cosmopolitan West, received a special screening at the Autry Museum and won at Twin Cities Film Fest.

Cast and Creative Team Behind Making a Bridesmaid
Alongside Ratermann and Emily Kincaid, the ensemble includes Serra Naiman, Wilder Yari, Alex Sgambati, Gina Su, Maya Butler, April Kelley, and Cynthia Aileen Strahan. Kincaid’s credits include Hard Miles and Succubus, while Yari has appeared in The Lincoln Lawyer and Quantum Leap. Sgambati’s credits include The Walking Dead, Tracker, and Love, Simon.
The film’s creative team includes editor Sabrina Plisco, president of American Cinema Editors, whose credits include Doctor Strange, Strays, and Ms. Marvel. Plisco also makes her producing debut with the project. Cinematographer David Newbert, known for Willy’s Wonderland, completes the key creative lineup.
Making a Bridesmaid was produced by 741 Films and Ratermann’s Little Hand Productions. Executive producers include Justin Gray, Finn Bruce, Michael D. Whitfield, Sonny Marler, Keith Rosmarin, Darren Cogan, and Emily Kincaid.
Making a Bridesmaid Heads to the American Film Market
With post-production complete, the film will be introduced to international buyers at the American Film Market, scheduled for November 10–15, 2026, in Los Angeles. Finn Bruce and Belstone Pictures are overseeing global sales. The film’s festival premiere plans and additional distribution details have not yet been announced.
Wachowski’s involvement puts added attention on a project that pairs a high-concept horror-comedy setup with questions about identity, rivalry, and belonging. Whether the film’s deadly bridesmaid contest reaches audiences through a festival premiere or a later distribution deal remains to be confirmed.
