Mr. Osomatsu Anime Film 2
The manga series, written by Fujio Akatsuka, initially debuted in 1962 and ended in 1969. Now, 54 years later, we have two Osomatsu movies produced to celebrate the franchise’s legacy. The anime, produced by Pierrot in 2015, was created as a tribute to Akatsuka turning 80.
The anime film will debut in Japan only on July 21 and will be played in theatres for a limited period. Along with a live-action film, the series has received three anime seasons, some shorts, a Nintendo 3DS game, an otome game, and two other anime films.
Available in English as well, the series can be streamed on local Japanese networks and Crunchyroll.
The Plot of the First Movie
The whole premise of the series, right since its debut, has revolved around six brothers, each with unique characteristic personalities. The series features the Matsuno brothers as they face new challenges and hilarious predicaments. Oh, and they all fancy the same girl, Tokoto. The first Mr. Osomatsu movie re-writes the manga and anime’s storyline but with the brothers ten years older.
Osomatsu Matsuno, voiced by Takahiro Sakurai, is the eldest sextuplet. He spends his time gaming and betting. He grows up to become an average salaryman. Karamatsu Matsuno, voiced by Yuuichi Nakamura, is the second eldest brother.
Overestimating his reputation, he claims he’s the “coolest” of all. He often adds English words to his sentences and sports a pair of stylish sunglasses. Choromatsu Matsuno, voiced by Hiroshi Kamiya, is the third born. As he puts on a show of a straight man, he also behaves like an otaku. He is the most responsible one.
Ichimatsu Matsuno, voiced by Jun Fukuyama, is the fourth brother of the sextuplets. A loner, he usually cusses often and is very strong. He grows up to become a company president. Jyushimatsu Matsuno, voiced by Daisuke Ono, is the simple-minded fifth brother.
He usually has no reactions to his crazy surroundings but is very hyperactive. Finally, we have Todomatsu Matsuno, voiced by Miyu Irino, the last born of the sextuplets. With a very down-to-earth personality, he takes advantage of his cuteness to get what he wants from his brothers.
Worth a Watch?
“Osomatsu-san is to anime what South Park is to American animation and what Deadpool is to superhero movies.” Could we have said it better? With a 7.5 rating on My Anime List, the anime series and the films have received positive reviews.
At first glance, the show and plot might sound family-friendly or children-friendly, but the humor is nowhere close to clean. The explicit humor is what made this show so popular. Many of the episodes aren’t family-oriented, with wildly inappropriate happenings.
The series is a must-watch for adults and teenagers. The simple story carries so many funny and heartwarming moments that can only be explained by watching it. Unsurprisingly, the series received praise for its animation, pacing, and narrative. If you love comedy anime, this show could be your cup of tea.
