Classroom of the Elite Season 2: Will There Be a Sequel?

Classroom of the Elite Season 2

Here’s all the information you need to know about Classroom of the Elite Season 2. This psychological thriller anime is an adaptation of the Japanese light novel series by Shunsaku Tomose. Later, Yuyu Ichino gave the illustrations for the manga adaptation. The anime television series by studio Lerche aired from 12 July 2017 to 27 September 2017. The light novel concluded two years later in September 2019. So, the twelve-episode anime came to an end much earlier than the original story, leaving us with a huge cliffhanger. The anime follows a group of high school students in a distant future.

The Japanese government established the Tokyo Metropolitan Advanced Nurturing School that fosters the students who will protect the country in the future. These students are the best in the country, given a high degree of freedom so they can closely mimic real life. The series centers on Kiyota Ayanokouji, he is a quiet boy and would rather keep his distance from others than make them friends. He studies in class D, where the school dumps the inferior students. However, his life changes drastically after he befriends Suzune Horikita and Kikyo Kushida. Together, and with the help of other students from class D, they stand against other classes to gain the top position.

The intense story and unique characters made the anime immensely popular at that time. The series isn’t a typical high school drama that we usually see in anime. It breaks the conventions of high school anime as the series mostly tilts towards suspense and thriller. Consequently, the series also deals with teenage problems such as anxiety, depression, fear of rejection, and so much more. Even almost four years later, fans are still hoping for a second season of Classroom of the Elite. Without season 2, we will never learn more about Ayanokouji and his past, nor will we ever see if he or any of his classmates ever made it to class A.

What Would Be The Story of Second Season?

If there ever will be a second season, it will start the story from the fourth volume of the manga. The series will follow the group as they battle back on the cruise ship. Unfortunately, this time, the students are separated and divided according to their zodiac signs. This means that they have formed twelve groups, with every member having the same zodiac sign. This challenge is all about survival and testing their brains as each group tries to figure out the identity of the VIP in all the other groups. The second season will be full of many interesting twists and turns. The second season will also include all the previous main characters.

Will There Ever Be a Classroom of the Elite Season 2?

The first season of the anime covers only the first three manga books, leaving 13 more volumes waiting to be adapted into anime. This means that there should be at least 3 or 4 more twelve-episode seasons to cover the entire story. Now the question arises – why hasn’t there been a second season of the anime? There are times when a studio produces an anime just for the sake of promoting the light novel or manga. This was especially the case for “Campione”, where the series never released a second season as they were successful in gathering readers for their novel.

Another possibility of cancellation of the anime sequel is due to low sales of the manga. This would result in losing money for the production, just like what happened with Tokyo Ravens. And this is likely the case for Classroom of the elite. Despite the show‘s popularity, fans just weren’t eager to buy the manga. However, the light novel was fairly popular with a decent number of sales. All the possibilities lead to the same conclusion; that the chances for a second season are low.

However, let’s not lose hope, as there have been instances where it took several years for a studio to release an anime sequel. For example, Gintama that once took four years to air the sequel season or mushishi that took nine years. And both those sequels were definitely worth the wait. The anime series Classroom of the elite may as well be one of them.
