Kobe was born in Philadelphia and spent his childhood there and was partially raised in Italy. Bryant was the top basketball player in the US when he was in high school. He studied in the Lower Merion High School which is in Pennsylvania. Kobe is the son of former NBA player Joe Bryant. The 1996 NBA Draft had selected Kobe after his graduation. He was the 13th pick. And Charlotte Hornets was the one who selected him for this draft. Then Hornets made him join the lakers. He earned his fame as a high-flyer and also a fan favorite by winning the 1997 Slam Dunk Contest that too when he was merely a newbie in the team. Kobe was titled as the All-Star by the time he completed his second season.

Although there was a bit of clash between Kobe and his teammate Shaquille O’Neal. They had led their team to three NBA championships consecutively. This was from the year 2000 to 2002. In 2003 a misfortune struck Kobe. Kobe was charged with sexual assault for harassing a young female hotel clerk. Later on, these charges were dropped. After the accuser had refused to testify to the accusations. The case was settled out of the courts. But, Kobe had made a public apology and stated that there was a sexual encounter, but it was mutual and the allegations of assault were false.

After this incident, another misery struck him when the lakers lost the 2004 NBA Finals. After this defeat, Kobe became the Cornerstone of the lakers, and O’Neal was traded. In the 2005–06 and 2006–07 seasons, Kob led the team in the scoring. In 2006 he had scored the highest score of his entire basketball career, which was 81 points. And this made Bryant the second to score highest in a single match after Wilt Chamberlian who had the highest score of 100 in a single match. Wilt had done this in 1962. And Kobe was the next person to be near this score in 2006. Even in 2009 and 2010, Bryant had led the Lakers to two consecutive championships. On both occasions, it was called the NBA Finals MVP.

He maintained the title of the best players till the year 2013. But then he suffered the torn Achilles tendon at 34. This was a big turning point in his life. As his playing was never the same after that. In 2014 he suffered some major season-ending injuries to his knee and shoulder. These were in his next two matches respectively. After that Kobe had to retire looking at his physical condition. Because if he continued to play he would become a liability for the team. So after the season of 2015-16, Kobe decided to take voluntary retirement.

Kobe Bryant always remained the best player of Lakers franchise history and the best scorer they could ever get. He was also the first player in the history of the NBA to play a minimum of 20 seasons. And the 18-star designation that he has achieved is remarkable and the second most in line. Also, the record that he has set for the most recurring appearances as a starter has set a high bar. The four All-Star Game MVP Awards that he has got are linked with Bob Pettit for the most in the history of the NBA. Kobe has also given himself the nickname of Black Mamba somewhere in the mid-2000s. And this nickname had gained a lot of popularity among the people. In the 2008 and 2012 Summer Olympics, Kobe had received two gold medals. He was a part of the U.S. national team at that time. Later in 2018, he received the Academy Award for the Best Short Film.
