There’s a different kind of nostalgia and beauty that 90s games have, and revolving around those is Studio Silver’s newest anime series titled 16Bit Sensation: Another Layer. From the minds behind Digimon Adventure, My Dress-Up Darling, and Sword Art Online, this new time travel series will surely absorb you into its world of wholesome comedy.
After the studio announced 16Bit Sensation’s anime adaptation in December 2022, work soon began on the series to make its premiere possible by mid-2023. The storyline of this Isekai anime centers on Konoha Akisato, a young illustration artist who hopes to become a well-known character designer one day. Akisato is suddenly transported back to the 90s, the golden age of games with pretty women.
While Isekai has become an overused concept, time-traveling back to the 90s to work on a Bishoujo game is something that we’ve never seen before. Along with plenty of other interesting characters and entertaining storylines, there’s a possibility that 16Bit Sensation might become one of the best Isekai Anime of this season.
16Bit Sensation Another Layer: About The Anime
Most illustration artists dream of one day designing a popular character that would rule the hearts of many, and Konoha Akisato is no different. However, after joining a well-known company, all that Akisato can do is fill in the backgrounds of already-designed characters. Her love for Bishoujo games keeps Akisato in the company despite it not being her dream job.
Konoha somehow ends up with an old Bishoujo game after the owner of a game shop coerces her into buying it. Now, this wasn’t any random video game. It was quite a masterpiece and seemed promising to Konoha. After starting “Dokyusei,” Akisato sees a bright flash emerge from the game.
Once she comes back to her senses, Konoha sees that she’s now transported back in time to the year 1992. Usually, this would be something to worry about, but remember that Akisato loves Bishoujo games, and 1992 happens to be the Golden Age of these games.
After a series of events, Konoha finds herself working for a company called Alcoholsoft, which isn’t that popular, but everyone who works there is filled with passion and talent. Joining Alcoholsoft finally, gives Konoha what she wants to do in life: the ability to think up, create, and showcase her beautiful characters to the world.
The voice characters that will be a part of 16Bit Sensation: Another Layer include Aoi Koga as Konoha, Atsushi Abe voicing Mamoru Rokuda, Ayako Kawasumi voicing Kaori, Yui Horie as the voice Meiko and Kentaro Ito Voicing Masaru Rokuda. Aoi Koga also happens to be the voice behind Paimon from Genshin Impact and Love Cute from Mashle.
