Maciej Buchwald and Kordian Kadziela’s 1670 is a Polish comedy that revolves around a time in Poland when nobility and honor were valued more than anything else. With Bartlomiej Topa as the lead character, this drama series takes us through all kinds of chaotic events taking place in the village of Adamczycha.
Jan Adamczewski is an eccentric nobleman who owns almost half of the village of Adamczycha. All Jan wants is to make it into Polish history books so that he can be remembered as one of the strongest rulers of a powerful country. With a leader so conceited, the poor villagers comically suffer due to his arrogance.
Besides Jan’s inconsiderate humor, the show’s also going to be featuring a ton of other people who are just as entertaining as Jan. This includes Andrzej, a farmer who only thinks about his bountiful harvest, Jan’s independent daughter, and many such characters who are going to make 1670 a show worth watching.
Besides Bartlomiej Topa in the role of Jan, the rest of the cast members of 1670 consist of Katarzyna Herman in the role of Zofia, Martyna Byczkowska plays Aniela, Michal Balicki plays Stanislaw, and Michael Sikorski plays Jakub.
1670: About The Polish Netflix Show
After so many satirical comedies, Netflix has improved at turning every historical drama into something filled with random jokes and absurd humor. 1670 is all about a zany nobleman who goes by the name of Jan.
Although nothing that he ever achieved was through his efforts, Jan strongly believes that he’ll easily make it into history textbooks and be known as a fine Polish nobleman. This nobleman also spends his entire day dealing with messy family feuds since Jan believes this could help improve his village along with his mighty image.
The 17th century was a time when Poland was very powerful, and many of its people practiced Sarmatism. Jan is a Sarmatian head of his noble family, giving him total control over the village. Despite his useless laws and rulings, Jan stayed safe from being removed as the head due to the prevalence of these practices all over Poland.
With his “progressive” thinking and unique ways of solving problems, Jan eventually gets himself out of every threatening situation and becomes closer to the path of eternal glory each day.
Bartlomiej Topa has been acting in films and TV shows since the beginning of the 90s. Other examples of his work include The Dark Horse, Karbala, Usta Usta, Hold Tight, and many other TV shows and movies.
Katarzyna Herman, who plays the role of Zofia, Jan’s Wife, has a Best Actress Award to her name and has acted in movies like Magda M., Doppelgänger, and Miasteczko.
What makes 1670 much more intriguing is that all of the scenes were filmed in an actual open-air museum situated in Kolbuszowa. This small town located in south-eastern Poland has a population of just below 10,000 and still carries the atmosphere of 17th-century Poland perfectly.
