Even though it only premiered in the Fall of 2021, Komi Can’t Communicate has quickly captured fans’ hearts with its quirky characters and touching themes of friendship.
In the first episode, we meet the beautiful but mysterious Shouko Komi, who has no friends due to her crippling social anxiety.
On her first day of high school, she sets the ambitious goal of making 100 friends before she graduates. It’s easier said than done when your anxiety makes it impossible to introduce yourself!
That’s when easygoing Tadano approaches her, immediately picking up on her social struggles. He talks to her compassionately, and they form an unlikely friendship, with Tadano taking it upon himself to help Komi on her quest for 100 friends.
What makes Komi so relatable is that her social anxiety feels completely authentic. Through inner monologues, we gain insight into how everyday interactions that seem effortless to most terrorize Komi mentally.
Small talk, eye contact, introductions – all feel insurmountable when you overthink as much as Komi does.
As the show continues, Komi slowly befriends more of her eccentric classmates, with Tadano acting as her trusty interpreter. The genuine care Tadano shows towards Komi tugs at the heartstrings. It’s clear their bond grounds Komi and gives her confidence.
Baki
Are you ready for some intense hyper-masculine energy? Then the action anime Baki is for you. Based on the manga by Keisuke Itagaki, Baki follows the trials of the teenage Baki Hanma as he trains to become the strongest fighter in the world.
With four seasons out from 2018-2020, this adrenaline-filled anime has captured fans’ attention with its absurdly over-the-top fights and larger-than-life characters.
We’re first introduced to Baki as a bored teenager itching for a challenge worthy of his skills. He’s the son of the infamous Yujiro Hanma, who holds the title of the world’s strongest creature.
But Baki aims to remove his father and claim that title for himself. Easier said than done, as Yujiro is an undefeatable human tank.
To whip himself into shape, Baki clashes with an array of hyper-exaggerated foes, from death row inmates unleashed into the city to hulking opponents summoned from across the globe.
Each fight pushes Baki to his limits, leaving him bloody and broken. But with his iron willpower, he keeps getting back up again. The dude’s determined; you have to give him that.
The real draw here is the outrageous fights that amp up to 11. We’re talking bulging muscles, bones jutting out of the skin, and enough testosterone to drown a horse. It’s like watching a UFC match on steroids.
Baki and his enemies throw physics out the window with their insane, gravity-defying moves. These dudes make Chuck Norris look weak.
You got Chinese martial artist Kaioh Retsu catching bullets with his bare hands. Death row inmate Doyle chokes, slamming people so hard they fly through skyscrapers. Yujiro stopped an earthquake with a punch. Come on; it’s absurd! Suspend your disbelief and enjoy the bonkers ride.
Inuyasha
The anime series Inuyasha has been winning over fans ever since it first aired in Japan in 2000. Based on Rumiko Takahashi’s manga, Inuyasha mixes fantasy, action, and romance to create an addictive adventure through feudal Japan.
The story follows modern schoolgirl Kagome, who gets transported back in time after falling into a well at her family’s shrine. She discovers she unknowingly carries the Shikon Jewel inside her body, a powerful gem that can grant wishes.
Soon a demon rips out the jewel, but Kagome joins forces with Inuyasha, a half-dog-demon, half-human hybrid, to recover the scattered shards before evil forces use them.
Inuyasha makes for a complex and headstrong hero. Growing up as a half-demon, he was shunned by humans and demons alike. After he tried to steal the Shikon Jewel years ago, the priestess Kikyo pinned him to a tree with a sacred arrow for 50 years.
Kagome releases him, but these two have a rocky start since Inuyasha can be arrogant and short-tempered. Still, he’s protective of Kagome since her spiritual powers can detect the jewel shards.
As Inuyasha and Kagome travel to collect the shards, they gain loyal friends, like the orphaned fox-demon Shippo, the cursed monk Miroku, and the fierce demon slayer Sango, whose family was killed by the evil half-demon Naraku. Sango’s two-tailed cat-demon companion Kirara aids them in battle.
Naraku is the story’s main villain. He tricked Inuyasha and Kikyo against each other in the past and now threatens the group by manipulating demons and humans to gather more jewel shards and power. Kikyo is brought back to life through witchcraft, and she also seeks vengeance on Inuyasha.
Bleach
The action anime Bleach centers around teenager Ichigo Kurosaki, who can see spirits. His life changes forever when a Soul Reaper named Rukia Kuchiki comes to his town to deal with a dangerous spirit called a Hollow.
After Rukia is injured, she transfers her Soul Reaper powers to Ichigo so he can fight the Hollow. But absorbing Rukia’s powers was illegal, and other Soul Reapers sentenced her to death. Wanting to save Rukia, Ichigo, and his friends go to the Soul Society to stop her execution.
In the Soul Society, the afterlife realm where Soul Reapers live, Ichigo and friends battle powerful captains of the 13 Court Guard Squads. They learn the execution was a plot by Squad 5 Captain Sōsuke Aizen, who fakes his death to seek greater power.
After stopping the execution, saving Rukia, and returning home safely, Ichigo must use his role as a SUBSTITUTE Soul Reaper to protect his town from attacking Hollows. He gains allies like Uryū Ishida, a spiritually aware human, and Orihime Inoue, who has healing abilities.
New threats like Arrancars – Hollows who removed their masks to gain Soul Reaper powers keep emerging. The Espada – particularly Ulquiorra, Yammy, Grimmjow, and Nnoitora – lead the Arrancars under Aizen’s command.
After OrihimeAizen, Ichigo and friends kidnap Orihimeo after rigorous training to rescue her from Aizen’s base in Hueco Mundo, the Hollows’ world. In the ongoing battles, they encounter the top four Espada and defeat them individually.
Ichigo later learns that his father, Isshin is a former Soul Reaper captain, and his mother, Masaki, was killed protecting Ichigo from a Hollow as a child.
When Aizen tries to create an Ōken to reach the dimension holding the Soul King, the source of Soul Reaper power, all Soul Reaper captains and vice-captains join forces to defeat the Espada and stop Aizen.
During these clashes, Ichigo battles Grimmjow and Ulquiorra in intense fights before finally confronting Aizen himself.
After Aizen’s defeat, Ichigo loses his powers. Xcution members like Kūgo Ginjō take over his Soul Reaper duties, but they have ulterior motives.
To restore Ichigo’s powers, Soul Reapers Rukia and Renji, along with their captains, help train Ichigo. He regains his powers to face Ginjō’s group and the mysterious Shinigami Shūkurō Tsukishima.
