Atypical is a television series created by Robia Rashid for Netflix. It revolves around the life of 18-year-old Sam Gardner (Keir Gilchrist), who has autism spectrum disorder. The series portrays some excellent and immensely well-written plot that leaves the audience wanting more and more of Sam and his beautifully disabled life. Season one was released on August 11, 2017.
The first season received some good positive reviews. However, the show was somewhat criticized for the lack of autistic actors and perceived inaccuracies in its depiction and portrayal of autism in their storyline. After learning from their mistakes, the second season featured more actors and writers with autism and hence received mostly positive reviews. The third season continued, it’s the development and received overwhelmingly good and positive reviews.
Atypical: What’s it all about
Sam Gardner, a young18-year-old happy to go teenager from Connecticut with autism, announces that he wants to start dating girls. His father, Doug, has struggled to connect with Sam over the years and is thrilled when Sam approaches him for some life and love advice. When Sam wants to surprise his all-time crush with chocolate-covered strawberries, Doug drives him to her house only to find out that Sam’s crush is Julia, Sam’s very own 26-year-old therapist. Doug quickly pulls Sam away and tells him in a worried voice to find a girlfriend of his age. Sam decides that he needs a “practice girlfriend” and, with the help of his friends and family, begins to learn the social nuances of dating and relationships.
As Sam grows more independent and mature, his mother Elsa struggles to find a life outside of being just his guardian. During a night out with her friends, Elsa meets a bartender and begins a hot romantic affair with him.

In case of the third installment, the show did wonders as the critics were highly impressed from the season, and according to many notable critics, season 3 is the boldest of all and a huge step up from other shows.

Unfortunately, the fans of the show will have to wait until next year for the new series to premiere on Netflix, but the news of yet more episodes has sparked joy and immense happiness for the audience. An official date for the new series has not yet been declared, but according to some sources, the series is supposed to make it on our screens by 2021.

Keir Gilchrist comes back as the sensitive yet mysterious Sam, and Elsa with Jennifer Jason Leah from The Hateful Eight. The evergreen and beautiful Brigitte Lundy-Pine stars as Casey, Sam’s younger and younger sister, and the very talented Michael Rapaport is Doug’s father and partner.
Season three came to an end with Elsa and Doug Izzy dear as Casey’s first steaming hot open kiss with a happy bartender after Elsa’s anxiety trouble. In season 4, the new romantic couple will see their mature relationship, especially with Casey making arrangements to attend a university in California. Sam has Zahid, the longest and dearest companion for the longest time, and season 4 will be able to see them both individually. At the same time, in season 4, Sam investigates his relationship with Paige and faces the consequences of having his moral fair.
