Romance is not a requisite for creating an attractive anime, yet love stories are a prevalent theme in many series.
Characters like Naruto, who finds his soulmate in Hinata, and Inuyasha, who eventually marries Kagome, have heartwarming romantic subplots.
However, numerous well-crafted characters beloved by fans are devoid of any romantic entanglements within their stories.
Not every anime character requires a love interest, and often their narratives are complete without a romantic subplot.
Yet, the prospect of how their lives and personalities might evolve with a romantic dimension is a fascinating contemplation.
After all, countless fanfictions are penned with romance as the central theme, and a well-executed love story involving a cherished character can be irresistible.
10) Miyako Needs a Companion for Support:
“Oshi no Ko”‘s Guardian Deserves Love Too
Initially, in “Oshi no Ko”, all Miyako desired was a handsome man. While this might not have been the most noble aspiration, Miyako has since blossomed into a genuinely caring and loving guardian for Aqua and Ruby.
With her husband, Ichigo, having disappeared and leaving her to manage Strawberry Productions alone, Miyako is deserving of another adult companion who could provide the support she needs.
The anime doesn’t go deeply into her relationship with Ichigo, but it’s evident that there was a lack of affection from her side, given her yearning for attractive men’s attention.
Miyako certainly doesn’t need a romantic partner, but it would be heartening to see her receive the love she longed for and, more importantly, someone who could support her in guiding Ruby and Aqua through their teenage years.
9) Sein Pines for a Romantic Adventure:
“Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End”Only Gives Him Headpats
While romance was never Sein’s top priority, he did mention several times that he would easily fall for a beautiful older woman, excluding Frieren.
Sadly, fans witness little of this as he eventually separates from Frieren and her group to join on his own personal quest to find his old friend and begin adventuring with him.
It would be delightful to see Sein form his own traveling party. A member of this party could be the older woman he yearns for, or perhaps someone entirely different from whom he ever imagined.
Regardless, it would be wholesome to see a partner who praises and helps Sein gain confidence as the adventurer and hero he aspires to be, rewarding him with love and affection rather than just head pats.
8) Jean Havoc Deserves a Happy Ending:
“Fullmetal Alchemist” Left Him Heartbroken
All Jean Havoc wanted was a girlfriend – someone pretty to love and to receive love from. He believed he had found that special someone in “Solaris,” but she turned out to be a homunculus using him for her own ends.
He was foolish to have fallen for it, but he didn’t deserve the near-fatal experience that resulted in his loss of mobility.
Having survived the harrowing events of “Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood”, Jean has more than earned the significant other of his dreams.
A simple man at heart, a pretty face who values his life and isn’t out to kill him would suffice.
Perhaps, after his walking ability is restored with the Philosopher’s Stone that Roy passed over, Jean will find a heartwarming romance with the nurse aiding his physical rehabilitation.
7) Maquia’s New Chapter Awaits:
The “Maquia” Protagonist Deserves Love Too
Maquia’s journey through motherhood was one she chose to undertake alone, even when a childhood friend offered to marry her and take care of her.
She neither needed nor wanted romance at the time, as her focus was solely on her son. After parting with him, however, Maquia is left with a whole new life ahead of her.
The lesson Maquia learns is that despite knowing she’ll outlive the people she loves, she should still find joy in the moments she has with them.
It’s a beautiful message, but Maquia also deserves a companion who can share in her grief and experiences.
Someone who understands her sadness but still appreciates the beauty of love and life with her would be perfect.
6) Kallen’s Future in Love:
“Code Geass”‘ Warrior Deserves a Real Romance
Despite all of Lelouch’s lies and deceptions, Kallen fell in love with him during the events of *Code Geass*, although their relationship never came to fruition.
With bigger matters at hand, their feelings took a backseat to the war between Japan and Britannia.
Kallen is still young, with her whole life ahead of her. Now that she and Japan are free, there is little stopping her from pursuing a romance should she desire one.
With her former love, Lelouch, gone, it would be gratifying to see Kallen cherished in a way she wasn’t before.
Someone who isn’t intimidated by her fiery personality or her prowess in battle and who will support her when her heart is called to duty would be ideal.
5) Suzaku’s Second Chance at Love:
“Code Geass”‘ Hero Deserves Happiness
Suzaku Kururugi carries one of the heaviest burdens in anime: living as Zero, a symbol of freedom and liberation, for the rest of his life.
At just 18, he is sentenced to this fate, barely an adult by Western standards. He may still mourn Euphemia, but it’s disheartening to think Suzaku spends the rest of his years without falling in love again.
Seeing Suzaku fall in love a second time would give him a chance at the happiness he lost in his youth. A love interest would also give him someone to care for.
He is a protective individual with a high sense of duty; having a person to care for would give him a renewed sense of purpose.
In turn, this person might be able to see through his facades and protect him from his own destructive tendencies.
4) When Will Sanji Find True Love?:
“One Piece”‘s Chef Deserves a Real Romance
Sanji claims to find the love of his life in every beautiful woman he meets, on every island across the world.
He might even be content wooing and admiring any lovely lady he pleases, but it would be intriguing to see him settle down with someone who manages to hold his attention forever.
Imagine a love interest who captures Sanji’s heart so completely that they become the only one he sees in an ocean of beautiful women.
There could be the endearing irony of that someone being entirely hopeless in the kitchen, giving Sanji every excuse to cook for them.
For as long as they hold Sanji’s love, they would be spoiled with delicious meals and treats, making it a fitting ending to a long-running bit that has spanned over 20 seasons.
3) Hawks Deserves a Loving Partner:
My Hero Academia”‘s Hero Needs Affection
Keigo Takami, also known as pro-hero Hawks in “My Hero Academia”, has had a rough life.
Born into a family lacking food and wealth, with an abusive father and a neglectful mother, he was forced to kill someone he believed deserved a second chance and later discovered his mother betrayed his secret identity to his enemies.
Yet, somehow, Hawks remains optimistic. For all the good Hawks has done and continues to do, it would be heartwarming to see him receive the warmth and affection he lacked as a child.
Being a hero, as “My Hero Academia” illustrates, is a heavy burden. The job requires lying and keeping secrets, which can be isolating.
A supportive and loving partner would help Hawks maintain the strength he needs to continue in his demanding job, despite his love for it.
2) Aizawa’s Need for a Partner:
“My Hero Academia”‘s Teacher Deserves Love Too
Shota Aizawa, willing to sacrifice life and limb for his students, treats class 1-A like his own children.
When Eri needs a home, he cares for her as if she were his own daughter. In profession, Aizawa is a hero; in heart, he is a father.
Giving Aizawa someone to help parent the hoard of children under his wing would be adorable and wholesome.
Seeing a partner bring him coffee to his class or provide him with warm blankets during breaks is a charmingly domestic picture for a man who has made a career out of fostering a generation of young saviors.
It would also be entertaining to see Aizawa’s students teasing him about his ever-doting love.
1) Kakashi’s Hidden Heart:
Naruto Shippuden’s Mystery Man Deserves Love
Kakashi Hatake, the first teacher Naruto has after graduating from the ninja academy, the initial leader of Team 7, and the sixth Hokage of Konohagakure, is an incredibly accomplished and impressive shinobi.
He led an entire village without ever showing his face to anyone. It would have been interesting if there had been at least one person privileged to see Kakashi’s face in his most private, vulnerable moments — someone he felt safe sharing all his emotions with.
Kakashi willingly removing his mask and symbolically revealing the burden of all his experiences in front of a lover could have been the foundation for a beautiful relationship based on trust and support. Perhaps they could also share his love of erotic novels.
while romance is not a necessity for a great anime, exploring the potential love lives of beloved characters can add a fascinating layer to their narratives.
Whether it’s Miyako finding a supportive partner, Sanji settling down with someone who captures his heart, or Aizawa having a partner to help him parent his students, these characters deserve the chance to experience the joy and complexity of love.
