Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool franchise was one of the most prized superhero entities of 20th Century Fox. But this was short-lived as its existence came into question when Disney had its merger with Fox back in 2019. Since then Marvel fans had a lot of questions on how this merger would affect the franchise. It was just a few years ago when 20th Century Fox came up with this low-budget R-rated superhero movie. And soon after its success, a sequel came out. But now being under Disney, fans doubted how Deadpool would fit into the exclusively PG-13 category of Marvel Cinematic Universe. This even concerned Deadpool creator, Rob Liefeld who was looking forward to the chance of making another movie.
As it turns out, Disney wouldn’t throw away such a successful franchise and a Deadpool 3 is bound to come out. It wouldn’t be a standalone movie franchise, but in fact, the foul-mouthed mercenary will become a part of the MCU. This was confirmed by Marvel Studios President and CEO Kevin Feige. He confirmed that the franchise will keep its R-rating and a script was in the works. The script will be overseen by Ryan Reynolds as it will be penned down by screenwriting sister duo Lizzie Molyneux-Loeglin and Wendy Molyneux.
What will be the Plot of Deadpool 3?
The movie is still in pre-production with a script written by Lizzie Molyneux-Loeglin and Wendy Molyneux. And considering how the merger between Disney and Fox occurred, it will be quite a difficult task for the duo to fit in the foul-mouthed mercenary into the MCU. Ryan Reynolds had previously expressed how he felt like the characters needed everything to be taken away from them to function properly within his own universe. But considering how it was revealed by Kevin Feige that Deadpool will be part of MCU, it is no longer an issue.
The problem at hand right now is how this R-Rated franchise fits in within the MCU. Kevin Feige had expressed how Deadpool as a franchise worked and there was no reason to change it. But it’s still unclear whether Deadpool 3 will be a sequel to the previous movie or a soft reboot to fit-in to the MCU.
In the last movie, we saw Negasonic Teenage Warhead fixing Cable’s time machine. Deadpool used this to right the wrongs of the past. This included erasing a regrettable hilarious career choice made by Ryan Reynolds. And there could be a possibility that time travel has a way to play into the two franchises’ merger. As of now, considering how WandaVision introduced FOX’s Quicksilver, it is not completely out of the horizon to assume that Deadpool will help introduce other X-Men or even Fantastic Four characters into the MCU.
When will Deadpool 3 Release?
Consider that only now that the long-time Bob’s Burgers writers Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Loeglin were hired. It will take quite a while before Deadpool 3 goes into production. An official release date is yet to be announced by Marvel. But we can surely count the movie to be good. Reynolds had personally met with the writers to hear their pitches and considers them to be a ‘perfect fit’.
Once the filming starts, we may get a better idea of the release date. But as of now looking at the MCU schedule, it looks quite congested. And it feels like it will take some time before Deadpool 3 comes out considering even a director hasn’t been picked yet. Deadpool 3 is likely to come out in late 2022 or 2023 but nothing can be confirmed as of yet.
Who will be in the Cast?
As of now considering there is no script, we can only speculate. Ryan Reynolds is certain to reprise his role as Wade Wilson for Deadpool 3. Following him would be Josh Brolin as Cable and Zazie Beetz as Domino. Morena Baccarin will most likely join the cast as Deadpool’s girlfriend, Vanessa.
While we may even perhaps see the X-Force team: Stefan Kapičić as Colossus, Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Shioli Kutsuna as Yukio, and Julian Dennison as Russell.
