Gun Gale Online, the popular spin-off of Sword Art Online, has announced the release date for its highly anticipated second season. First revealed at the 30th Dengeki Bunko Summer Festival in July 2023, the new season will return this Fall, over six years after the first season aired.
The official Sword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale Online account on X shared that season 2 will premiere in Japan on Wednesday, October 4, 2024, at 11:00 p.m. Japanese Standard Time (JST). This announcement was made during the Aniplex x Kadokawa Anime Festival livestream on Friday.
Details on streaming and simulcast availability for the new season are still pending. However, the first season, which consists of 13 episodes, is available on Crunchyroll. The exact number of episodes for season 2 has not been announced yet but will likely be updated on the anime’s official website or social media soon.
Gun Gale Online is based on the light novels by Keiichi Sigsawa and Kouhaku Kuroboshi. It is set in the same world as Sword Art Online by Reki Kawahara. The first season, which aired in April 2018, was a hit both in Japan and internationally, generating much excitement for the second season.
While Studio 3Hz produced the first season, A-1 Pictures will handle the production for season 2. A-1 Pictures is known for popular series like Solo Leveling, Makeine: Too Many Losing Heroines, and Mashle: Magic and Muscles.
Mark your calendars for the release of Gun Gale Online season 2 on October 4, 2024!
