As many of you know; Dragon ball Z was supposed to end at Frieza’s Saga as Kakarot the savior of the universe Taking in account many factors that triggered his transformation to the Super Saiyan of Legend and Of course Vegeta’s death was one of them.
But Dragon balls Z made a huge Success that made Toriyama do more dragon ball so a new Arc was needed, And who’s better than Vegeta to carry the new arc pillars?
His Future son Trunks!
Future Trunks was introduced as Vegeta future son who came to warn the Z fighters about the danger of the Androids.Normally having Kakarot to train and come save the day a total cliche so Toriyama decided to give Vegeta 1 step ahead to make things more interesting by making him a SUPER SAIYAN!
but as the first couple episodes of the new arc went by, The Androids Saga didnt do very well so one of Toriyama’s editors(Kazuhiko Torishima) suggested him to make a new villain which was Cell.
Again, It was no fun if the main villain was beaten up so quickly, So to extend the story Vegeta had to be used again for the sake of the plot and we all know how it went down
After defeating cell, Gohan was supposed to replace his father as the savior of the planet and pick up the torch from him but the fans highly disapproved of that not to mention Toriyama was too tired from drawing Dragon ball and wanted to retire.
Later Goten was introduced in Buu saga to replace his father but then again the fans rejected such an idea. When Babdi wanted to pick one of the Z fighters to become his new henchman Toriyama’s first pick was piccolo (his favorite character) but Toriyama’s editor told him picking Vegeta(Toriyama’s least favorite) would be more fitting to the story and it did!
The most rated Character until this day in Dragon ball history was introduced: Majin Vegeta also known as the Prince of destruction(his original Japanese name)
After having his epic battle with Kakarot, Vegeta took it upon himself to decide the fate of the earth this time and went into an all-out battle with Majin Buu.And that’s the 2nd time Vegeta was killed off in Dragon ball
Later after the introduction of Gotenks and Mystic Gohan the fans wanted back Kakarot, But having him defeat Majin Buu all by himself would be no fun, So once again the plot needed a pillar to carry it and guess who is the most suited guy for that role? You have guessed it already.
Vegeta was once again revived in order to create a plot for Vegito, We all know how Vegeta did in his struggle vs Kid Buu and his idea of defeating him BUT was that enough to give him the credit he deserves? The answer is NO, neither Toriyama nor Toei wanted to admit that Vegeta been carrying DBZ plot on his shoulders.
With the end of Buu saga, Toriyama retired from making Dragon ball but Toei animation wanted to keep going except that time Toriyama refused but he gave them permission to make their own series which was GT.Toei went out and started DB GT and everyone who watched GT would know how horrible the 1st season was when it was kid Kakarot with pan and trunks searching for the dragon balls.
You all see where this is going right? Yep, Vegeta was needed to lift up the disaster Toei did so they made “Baby Vegeta”
Although it didn’t do well it helped in introducing the new form of the transformation Super Saiyan 4 which was the only thing that kept GT alive.Later when the series hit a dead end with the villain Omega Shenron a plot for a fusion was needed so Toei or whoever wrote that arc’s story Magically made Vegeta Super Saiyan 4 for the sake of creating Super Saiyan 4 Gogeta
With the failure of GT a few years later a new series was needed and as we all know it’s the current ongoing series Dragon ball Super, But this time Toriyama and Toei animation made sure to give Vegeta some credit and some spotlight.Of course, Until this moment Vegeta never got any serious moment or the main villain to kill but at least he is introduced equally in the opening theme of Super.
And now we already know Vegeta is about to gain new Power which will be stronger or at least as strong as the god of destruction. Just imagine if Vegeta was killed in DBZ first arc we won’t be having any of these epic battles. What do you think? How different would Dragon Ball Universe be without Vegeta? Stay tuned for more.

This goofy, lazy man who really loves Udon noodles punches his way through any battle and his goofiness belies his strength.
