Lincoln Lawyer Ending Explained
The series starts with a mysterious man being followed in the parking lot of a building by an enigmatic figure. The series begins with the very first murder as the mysterious man turns out to be Lawyer Jerry Vincent, who is shot dead the same night in the parking garage. The following day the viewers are introduced to Mickey Haller, his acquaintance. Mickey is handed over the cases in the care of Jerry by Judge Mary Holder.
Mickey gets a call from Lorna, his ex-wife, talking about the cases, and the viewers get to know that one of the cases handled by Jerry was of Trevor, a game developer accused of murdering his estranged wife. Lorna arrives at Jerry’s office at the same time when police officers are searching his workplace for shreds of evidence related to his murder. Lorna asks the police officers to leave the premise while Mickey pays a visit to Trevor in an attempt to convince him to hire him as his defense lawyer.
Another case Mickey takes is of a drug addict named Izzy accused of stealing a necklace. Mickey is sympathetic towards the former as he was a drug addict in the past who turned his life around. Mickey successfully gets the charges against Izzy dropped, allowing the latter to work for Mickey as his driver. Mickey hires Cisco as his investigator to help him with the cases while Maggie, his ex-wife of Mickey, continues to be wary of him due to his past with drug addiction.
As Mickey is having dinner with his daughter Hayley, he is paid a visit by none other than Raymond Griggs, the detective responsible for handling Jerry’s murder case. Raymond asks Mickey to have a look at Jerry’s former case file, which is refused by Mickey. Cisco reveals his and Lorna’s wedding plans to Mickey while the duo is investigating the house where Trevo’s wife was killed alongside her lover.
Trevor informs Mickey that he needs to win the court case and public opinion. Mickey refuses Trevor’s request while informing him of his incapability to do so. Trevor tells the story of his first meeting with his wife and how much he loved her, prompting Mickey to promise him his win. The first episode ends with Trevor hiring Mickey to handle his case. Mickey and Izzy are followed by a black SUV as they return from the meeting with Trevor, but the duo successfully loses it.
Mickey begins to question Jerry’s actions after he finds no evidence to defend Trevor in court. The black SUV continues following Mickey to his house, but he pays no heed to it. Meanwhile, Mickey takes up the case of Terell, a divorced father in an unfair circumstance. Mickey brings Hayley with him to observe him as he works for the first time. Mickey successfully gets Terell released as he slowly works on repairing his relationship with Maggi.
Meanwhile, Cisco contacts Bruce, Jerry’s investigator, who informs him about Jerry taking him off Trevor’s case. The case continues as Trevor asks Mickey to deny the continuance of the case, and he does so. It also gets revealed that Jerry had several affairs with a married woman, and he had a magic bullet. The second episode ends with Mickey leaving in his car, which is bugged as a man hears Mickey’s conversation with Izzy from the black SUV. The series moves forward, and Mickey solves several cases along the way of solving Trevor’s case.
Who Killed Jan Rilz and Laura
Initially, Mickey suspects Trevor’s former college roommate to be behind the killing of Laura and her boyfriend. Mickey also suspected the former roommate of being the killer of Jerry as he suspected Jerry was involved in shady business. The reason behind Trevor being the prime suspect was if Laura were to divorce Trevor, she would also take half of his money which would result in the Russian acquisition of the project is impossible.
Trevor also showed almost no emotion in front of the cops investigating the case of his wife’s murder the night she was murdered with her lover in their home. Mickey also became the suspect in his wife’s murder as it was obvious he was upset with his wife’s affair.
Trevor had gunpowder residue on his hand at the time of the police investigation, which helped the cops to file a case against him and charge him with the murder of his wife and her lover. Trevor tries to maintain his innocence throughout the series but in a turn of events, it is revealed that Trevor is the actual killer responsible for murdering his wife and her lover, as the company’s success was mainly due to Laura’s coding.
Trevor had successfully fooled everyone with his act of innocence alongside Mickey. Mickey proved Trevor’s innocence by stating Trevor couldn’t have murdered his wife in seven minutes and changed clothes at the same time. Mickey uncovered that a potential divorce would have taken Laura’s talent away to another company. She would also be capable of suing and claiming the intellectual property of the game as hers.
Trevor successfully used a drone to remove his blood-stained clothes into a nearby sea, fabricating the Russian’s involvement. As soon as Trevor starts to think that he has gotten out Scout free of the murder charges, he is shot dead by Carol Dubious, another lover of Laura. The series ends with Maggie successfully taking down Angel Sotto, even though her initial investigation failed.
Jerry’s killer is revealed to be Sweeney, a contract killer hired by Judge Mary Holder after she tried to interfere with a jury rigging conspiracy. In the end, a tattoed man is revealed to be watching Mickey from a distance as he continues to surf confidently. The ending of Lincoln Lawyer tied together the themes of what justice looks like outside the system and corruption. In season 1, the viewers get a glimpse of Elliot being acquitted even though he is guilty, whereas Menendez gets convicted even though he is innocent.
