Todo wasn’t seen at all after his fight with Mahito alongside Mahito in Jujutsu Kaisen Manga, as if he disappeared. And this is rather terrifying, as the A Grade sorcerer isn’t the type to simply quiet down after a big fight. However, given how Gege loves to torture and his fans, it wouldn’t be out of bounds that Todo died off-screen.
And speaking of off-screen (and dying), there have been a lot of deaths in the series ever since the Shibuya incident. From those who watch anime, they were certainly shocked by the sudden shift of the genre. And the less is said about the manga readers, the better. They are at the forefront of the misery being brought to their beloved characters.
To this day, the JJK Fandom is shaken by the sudden death of Gojo Satoru at the hands of Sukuna. Everyone was sure that Gojo would win the fight, or at least damage the king of the curses. However, the contribution made by Gojo was next to none as we are seeing the chapters unfold in the manga.
It could be said that Gege took away all the safe elements of the story and left Yuji alone. Sure, it would make the young Jujutsu Sorcerer have the fight of his life for good and evil, but it’s quite twisted. However, the manga will be ending soon by the end of 2024, and hopefully give us a satisfying conclusion.
But we digress as Jujutsu Kaisen gives us a lot to think about and feel sad about. However, the little digression should serve to show that this is not a series of miracles unless you are the antagonist. Then all the plot armor in the world would save you from the do-gooders that are just trying to set things right.
Uptill this point, all the deaths in Jujutsu Kaisen had been onscreen from Sorcerers to Curses. The only exception to this rule is Gojo, who was killed off-screen with Gege even joking about it later on. However, the author stands right on the Infinity sorcerer making the world safe, rendering the world safe, and making other characters unable to grow.
But, the moment Gojo got sealed, the entire world started to fall apart, Sorcers and Civilians alike. The main conspirator behind this was Kenjaku, who had taken up the body of Geto and now used his technique. He had also employed four special-grade sentient Curses to aid him in his quest to bring a new age of Jujutsu Sorcery.
One of his main allies, Mahito, had decided to wreak as much havoc as possible with his nature as a curse. In particular, he was interested in taking down Itadori Yuji, who was the king of Spirits. And is also the natural enemy of the body-deforming curse that killed people mindlessly, but also derives a lot of desire from it.
Is He Still Alive?
Yuji lost a lot in that battle, his long-standing Nobura who didn’t even know what hit her, his temporary mentor Nanami took a final blow from Mahito before bursting out in a splash of blood. Leaving the young sorcerer feeling with grief and despair until Todo showed up and lifted his spirits to fight the good fight once.
In the showdown between Mahito and Yuji, Todo played the role of support and let his little brother have the victory. The cost of it came from losing his arm and being hit by Black Flash in the stomach. After which he passed out from blood loss and never heard from again, signifying that he might have passed away.
Now, for all the doom and gloom it still hasn’t been confirmed that he had died from the attack of Mahito’s. This gives us a little hope as to the survival of the Boogie Woogie user. However, the reason for his survival is based truly on the whims of Gege rather than his popularity.
Gege isn’t shy of killing off characters just to advance the story, something that surprises the fans to this day. People still think that one-day Nobura will come back all okay, with her usual devil-may-care attitude. But the incidents after that should be a clear indication as to things not changing for the better anytime or maybe even never.
However, Todo wasn’t bad to the extent other characters were, and given how the help had arrived just as he passed out, he is likely to be alive. But, the thing that would be the most important in regards to him would be his Jujutsu Technique. He last used it to give Itadori a chance to hit Mahito with a direct Black flash.
Is There A Chance For Todo’s Boogie Woogie To Return?
After using the Boogie Woogie in an unorthodox way, he tried to perform with just one hand but failed to execute it. Todo Claimed that he has now forever lost the technique with a solemn look on his face. As if the technique is forever lost and he would have to live without it for the rest of his life.
However, this was before the culling games happened and we get many other characters joining the cast. And we got to see how far the people can go with their reverse cursed technique and repair all sorts of damage. Indicating that his technique can come back if he gets the right treatment from the right person.
It could be that during the finale of the Shibuya Incident, Todo had incurred more losses than it seemed, and had been out for three months since. In the meantime, he was being looked over by Ieri as one of the leading instructors in reverse cursed technique. Making it likely that he needed more care than presumed for most sorcerers in the series.
Moreover, he could be getting treatment for getting his arm fixed too, as there are quite a bit of people to help with that. The best candidate to help Todo fix his technique would be Angel, the one with the Curse Seal technique. It is possible that if she learns the reverse cursed technique, her kill could repair Boogie Woogie and put him back on the battlefield.
There is also the case of Angel never being able to learn it and Todo being stuck in his predicament. In that case, he could be dealing with the A-grade Curses and protecting people. For it is not in his nature to sit idle and let just things happen around him.
Where Has Todo Been All The Time?
Among all the character deaths we have seen, Todo isn’t one of them, he has never been confirmed on screen to be dead. Or given a vague message when Nobara’s situation was called into question, and neither a direct confirmation like Gojo. However, Gege got quite a lot of hate for killing Gojo in his fight against Sakuna off-screen.
Whatever the truth may be, the events of Jujutsus Kaisen remain interesting to everyone who reads it. The series had even topped One Piece in the manga plus online app, making it the best manga of the year and showing what it is capable of. Though JJK isn’t the only one to have done so, the series inspired by it, Chainsawman, also topped the site at one point.
Currently, the final battle between the modern Sorcerers and the sorcerers of the past is rolling, with things being grim for the modern sorcerers. As we have seen many times in this series, the plot armor is not with the protagonist this time around, being at the whims of the antagonist, and Gege playing favorites as well.
The mangaka of the series has also admitted many times that he doesn’t like the good sorcerers that much. This was especially true with Gojo, whose sealing he celebrated to the surprise of many fans who were still recovering. And also how he doesn’t like Yuta that much either, while being indifferent to what Yuji goes through in his life.
Gege might as well be the real Kenjaku who tries different things just to see what would happen. Gege said in the notes of Jujutsu Kaisen 0 how he likes to think of twists that would no one would expect. While he has gotten the world’s attention with it, fans are hoping for a happy ending still.
