Junya Enoki, the Japanese voice actor behind Yuji Itadori in Jujutsu Kaisen, has revealed which character he would choose to portray if he had the opportunity to take on another role in the anime. During an interview with Anime Corner at Japan Expo Paris, Enoki picked Toge Inumaki for a surprisingly practical reason.
The voice actor said Inumaki’s limited dialogue would be easier on his voice compared with Yuji’s frequent shouting. Enoki explained,
“I would choose Inumaki because he doesn’t talk much. Itadori is always screaming, so Inumaki would be easier on my throat.”
Why Inumaki Would Be Easier Than Playing Yuji
Enoki has voiced Yuji since Jujutsu Kaisen premiered, making the role one of his most recognizable anime performances. Yuji’s emotional intensity and frequent battle scenes require Enoki to deliver everything from quieter conversations to forceful screams, something that has become a notable part of the character’s voice performance.

His comments also highlight how physically demanding some of Yuji’s scenes can be for a voice actor. Enoki discussed this alongside his approach to recording action sequences, explaining that scenes combining fighting and dialogue often require him to treat the performance as an “internal fight.” Rather than simply shouting through combat scenes, he focuses on Yuji’s internal thoughts and emotions during those moments.
The actor also reflected on Yuji’s development throughout the anime. He identified the Shibuya Incident as the character’s hardest period because Yuji believes he is responsible for the deaths that occur. Enoki said that trying to put himself in Yuji’s position made the character’s guilt and darkness difficult to bear.
Despite the demanding performance, Enoki remains committed to Yuji as Jujutsu Kaisen moves forward. He told overseas fans that the team is currently working on the next season and jokingly promised that he would “scream a lot” for Season 4.
