As of 2024, Félix “xQc” Lengyel, one of the most recognizable names in the world of online streaming and esports, has an estimated net worth of $50 million.

Born on November 12, 1995, in Laval, Quebec, Canada, xQc’s journey to wealth and stardom has been anything but conventional.

From competitive esports to being one of the most popular and controversial figures on Twitch and later Kick, xQc’s success story is a testament to his remarkable rise within the digital entertainment landscape.

Early Life and Career Beginnings

Félix Lengyel grew up in Laval, Quebec, and developed a passion for gaming at an early age. He originally began his career in gaming at the age of 19, streaming on Twitch under the alias xQcLoL, where he initially played League of Legends.

He later shortened his name to just xQc, a combination of his first initial and a reference to Quebec, his home province.

Lengyel’s competitive streak was ignited when he began playing the team-based first-person shooter Overwatch, a game released by Blizzard Entertainment in 2016.

His early focus on Overwatch as his primary game would later shape his career in esports, and this move would lead to his first big break in professional gaming.

Competitive Overwatch Career

xQc quickly made a name for himself in the competitive Overwatch scene, initially participating in online tournaments before joining the ranks of major esports organizations.

He was picked up by Denial Esports, where he played in the inaugural season of Overwatch Contenders.

His talent and dedication to the game earned him a spot in the competitive Overwatch league, where he joined Dallas Fuel in 2018.

His time with Dallas Fuel was marked by some controversy. In the early part of the season, xQc was known for his explosive personality and was issued a suspension after making homophobic comments toward openly gay player Austin Wilmot.

After returning from his suspension, xQc helped Dallas Fuel secure a victory over the Los Angeles Gladiators, but he was later released from the team for making racist and disparaging remarks on social media.

Despite the setbacks, Lengyel continued to play Overwatch for several other teams, including GOATS and Gladiators Legion.

His success wasn’t just limited to Overwatch team play. In 2017, he competed in the Overwatch World Cup as part of Team Canada, where they unfortunately lost to South Korea.

However, xQc’s performance was so impressive that he was named the tournament’s MVP, cementing his reputation as one of the most skilled Overwatch players globally.

Transition to Full-Time Streaming

After his exit from the competitive Overwatch scene in 2018, xQc pivoted to full-time streaming, leaving behind his esports career to focus on content creation.

By 2019, he had already established himself as one of the most successful and most-watched streamers on Twitch, with an ever-growing fanbase.

Known for his unpredictable and charismatic personality, xQc streamed a variety of content, ranging from Overwatch to Grand Theft Auto V, Minecraft, and even chess. His streams were marked by humor, high-energy antics, and candid interactions with fans.

By 2019, he had amassed millions of followers on Twitch, and his viewership was consistently among the highest on the platform.

In fact, xQc was Twitch’s most-watched streamer in 2019, with a staggering 80 million hours watched. His ability to adapt and embrace different games allowed him to maintain a diverse and engaged audience.

Expanding into Other Games and Media

One of the key moments in xQc’s career came in 2020 when he began streaming chess. His participation in PogChamps, an online chess tournament, gained widespread attention when he was soundly defeated by YouTuber Cr1TiKaL in just six moves.

The match became a viral sensation, attracting millions of viewers and boosting his already substantial following.

This period solidified xQc as not only a gaming icon but also a cultural one, as his content spanned across genres, capturing an even larger audience.

By 2021, xQc’s numbers were off the charts. He was the leading streamer on Twitch, racking up an impressive 163 million hours watched midway through the year.

By the end of 2021, his total hours watched skyrocketed to a mind-blowing 274 million hours. In 2022, he broke his own records, peaking at over 312,000 live viewers during a stream of the Overwatch 2 beta, further solidifying his dominance on the platform.

The $100 Million Kick Deal

One of the most significant moments in xQc’s career came in mid-2023 when he signed a two-year contract worth up to $100 million with Kick, a rival streaming platform to Twitch.

This deal was one of the largest in the entertainment industry at the time and marked a significant shift in the world of online content creation.

According to xQc’s agent, the deal was not just large in terms of money, but also one of the highest-value contracts in entertainment across all industries.

The contract with Kick was valued at $70 million with the potential to grow to $100 million with additional performance incentives. Notably, the deal did not require xQc to create content exclusively for Kick, although it remains his primary platform.

This deal was a clear indication of the growing power of alternative streaming platforms and highlighted xQc’s immense popularity and bargaining power within the streaming industry.

Controversies

While xQc’s career has been marked by immense success, it has also been marred by several controversies. Known for his erratic and sometimes offensive behavior, xQc has been banned from Twitch multiple times.

Some of the most notable incidents include a three-day ban in 2019 for allegedly streaming explicit content and a seven-day ban in 2020 for his involvement in a “Fall Guys” incident, where his team deliberately targeted and sabotaged another team.

He was also banned for using a code that uncensored explicit content during a stream of Strip 4: Classmate Study, and in 2021, xQc was banned for briefly showing inappropriate content during a stream.

Despite these controversies, xQc’s ability to bounce back each time is remarkable. His fans remain incredibly loyal, and his influence on platforms like Twitch and Kick continues to grow.

He also moved back to Canada in 2021 due to a series of incidents involving “swatting” (false emergency calls to law enforcement), demonstrating the downsides of fame in the online world.

Legacy and Impact

xQc’s influence goes far beyond his gaming skills. He has become a household name, known for his engaging personality, incredible work ethic, and unwavering commitment to his fans.

His decision to leave Twitch for Kick is emblematic of his desire to push the boundaries of what it means to be a content creator in the digital age.

As of 2024, xQc continues to thrive in the streaming world, with his $50 million net worth reflecting his massive success across multiple platforms and gaming genres.

From competitive esports to full-time streaming and securing a landmark deal with Kick, xQc’s future looks brighter than ever. His impact on online gaming and content creation will likely be felt for years to come.
