Since his abrupt departure from Emmerdale at the start of January 2018, Adam Barton has not been seen by the fans. Although Adam’s leaving and whereabouts are still on viewers’ minds, the character is still an all-time favorite among ITV soap opera fans. So Why Did Adam Barton Leave Emmerdale?
On the ITV show, Adam Barton is James and Moira Barton’s son. Additionally, he is Holly, Pete, Ross, Matty, Finn, and Isaac’s stepbrother. Adam Thomas took on the role in 2009 and sadly left the soap opera in 2018.
Over the course of his life in the village, Adam has lost a lot of his closest relatives. Adam was devastated when John died in a vehicle accident in 2012 since, at the time, he thought of John as his father.
Holly Barton, Adam’s step-sister, sadly passed away in 2016 shortly after overdosing on heroin. James, Adam’s biological father, also died in the car crash on the Hotten Bypass. Finn, his stepbrother, passed away in 2017 after having been shot to death by Emma Barton just before Emma was killed by Moira.

Adam initially got interested in Katie after Ross challenged him to a bet on who would end up with her first. Katie became furious when she learned about the bet, but she quickly forgave Adam and started dating him. As soon as Adam started to believe that Katie was only using him and wasn’t truly in love with him, he started to focus on Victoria Sugden.
Adam quickly became upset after learning the truth about his dad, and he ultimately harmed Andy Sugden unintentionally by starting a tractor and causing his arm to get stuck in it. Adam was upset because Katie was on Andy’s side. The pair subsequently made the decision to part ways.

After being good friends for some time, Adam and Victoria began dating in 2015. Adam asked Vic to marry him on her 21st birthday. Vic agreed to get married to him, but she quickly changed her mind since she believed she was too young to get married. After becoming upset, Adam turned to Vanessa Woodfield for warmth and soon found himself having a one-night thing with her.
Adam’s relationship with Vic suffered because he was made to think that he was the biological father of Vanessa’s child. Adam’s heart was broken when it was found that Kirin was the actual father of baby Johnny. Victoria and Adam later came to terms, but their union came to an end when she learned that Adam had once again kissed Vanessa. Vic tried, but failed, to stop Adam from leaving the village.
Why Did Adam Barton Leave Emmerdale?
Adam admitted that he was the one who killed Emma Barton in order to cover up for his mother, Moira Dingle, who was the real murderer. In 2015, when Emma Barton went back to the Dales, she was determined to exact revenge on Moira for shattering her marriage with James Barton.
Emma was able to revive her relationship with James, but fate repeated itself when Moira, who was at that point separated from Cain, rekindled their romance. Emma kidnaps James after learning the truth. She kept him imprisoned at Wylie’s Farm by morphine-dosing his food.
In 2017, she “jumped” from a viaduct and died, although it turned out Moira Dingle had actually pushed her. To keep his mother out of jail, Adam admitted to the police that he killed Emma.
Aaron and Cain showed up on the day of Adam’s trial in January 2018 and forced Adam free from his prison van. They handed him cash and drove him to the ports, where he jumped on a cargo ship heading for Amsterdam and later France.
When Adam got there, he was going to work for one of Aaron’s friends. Victoria attempted to stop him, but he was determined to leave and left Moira a heartbreaking voicemail before boarding the boat.
Adam went to Budapest, Hungary, where he started to put his life back together. He met a woman while he was there, completely unaware that Victoria found out Adam was innocent and was planning to find him so they could get back together.
Adam told Aaron not to tell Victoria, but Robert found out and thought she needed to know. Aaron decides to go on the run with Adam in December 2021 after his boyfriend is killed and his sister is imprisoned for it.
