Over ten centuries ago, the infamous King of Curses Sukuna made a deal with Kenjaku to take part in the deadly Culling Game ritual, allowing Sukuna’s spirit to live on after death.
As part of their agreement, Kenjaku split Sukuna’s soul into his 20 fingers, turning them into highly dangerous cursed objects imbued with tremendous dark energy.
These fingers were scattered across Japan and often placed in locations already abundant in curses, as their presence could strengthen protective barriers.
In the modern day, six of Sukuna’s fingers ended up in the possession of Tokyo Jujutsu Tech High School. Due to the extreme risk they posed, these fingers were classified as special-grade curses and sealed away, unable to be destroyed. Meanwhile, Uraume, a devoted follower of Sukuna from ancient times, gathered four more fingers.
As a fated confrontation with Gojo approached, a revived Sukuna in Megumi’s body consumed these four fingers to regain his full might. Sukuna deduced Gojo likely hid the final finger, stalling Yuji’s ordered execution.
Rika Orimoto Used The Last Finger of Sukuna
The 20 detached fingers of the feared Sorcerer Sukuna were formed into special-grade cursed objects after his original death over 1000 years ago.
These dangerous items held pieces of Sukuna’s soul, allowing him to eventually reincarnate in modern times through Yuji Itadori when several fingers were consumed.
In the current day, Sukuna’s devout follower from his prior life, Uraume, managed to gather 4 of his severed fingers. As an imminent confrontation with Gojo drew near, a revived Sukuna inhabiting Megumi’s body ate these 4 fingers, restoring his power.
With only 1 finger unaccounted for, Sukuna guessed Gojo had concealed the last one, delaying Yuji’s death sentence.
Later it’s uncovered that this final missing finger was actually swallowed by Rika Orimoto, permitting Yuta Okkotsu to copy Sukuna’s “Shrine” technique into his own arsenal.
Using this replicated skill, Yuta could activate the “Cleave” ability on Sukuna himself, slashing the ancient curse’s face when their blades clashed.
The Role of Sukuna’s Fingers and Deadly Confrontations
Sukuna’s 20 severed fingers are mummified cursed objects that each contain a fragmented piece of his soul and immense power, even after a millennium. Equivalent to special-grade curses, these indestructible fingers pulsate with dangerous energy.
Despite sealing, they remain an extreme threat, continuing to amass strength and lure other curses over time.
The presence and detectability of individual fingers vary – some radiate terrifying auras, some stay hidden, and some are already devoured by curses, making them difficult to pinpoint.
If seeking to reaccumulate power, Sukuna’s incarnation vessel can sense the fingers’ locations.
However, the fingers cannot be consumed by just anyone, as ingesting them is a lethal poison for humans. Additionally, cursed spirits cannot sufficiently contain Sukuna’s soul. So ideal vessels are very rare – though Sukuna can choose his host.
Yuji’s singular capacity to not be fully possessed, but act as a “cage”, appears only once per millennium according to Gojo.
The Creation and Menace of Sukuna’s Finger Bearers
While Yuji can safely consume all 20 fingers eventually without full possession, ingesting numerous fingers simultaneously risks a temporary Sukuna takeover before adaptation occurs.
For example, if Yuji swallowed 10 fingers at once, his body wouldn’t readily adapt and contain Sukuna.
Additionally, when Yuji first revived Sukuna by eating a finger, it awakened other fingers already consumed by cursed spirits. These beings evolved into “Finger Bearers” – humanoid pale-skinned curses with 4 eyes, Sukuna’s finger embedded in their chest cavity, wearing loincloths.
Upon emerging, they instinctively distort the environment around their origin with an incomplete Domain, without using a curse technique.
These Sukuna-cursed spirits have formidable combat skills and delight in toying cruelty with victims like Sukuna.
Though extremely powerful, the Finger Bearers are confined to their birthplace, attacking any who encroach on their territory.
The cursed spirits that evolve into Finger Bearers after consuming one of Sukuna’s severed fingers are dangerously powerful. They are instantly classified as special grade upon emerging.
So far, these curses have exhibited prodigious combat abilities, coupled with a cruel nature akin to Sukuna himself. The Finger Bearers sadistically toy with and torment their victims.
Despite their formidable strength, these Sukuna-linked curses exhibit some ordinary curse attributes, remaining tethered to their location of origin. They will attack any being that encroaches into their immediate territory.
