As Fetty Wap’s music career skyrocketed with hit singles like “Trap Queen,” fans grew more curious about his personal life—especially the noticeable fact that he only has one functioning eye.
Over the years, many rumors circulated about how the rapper lost his left eye, with some suggesting it was the result of violence or a shooting.
However, Fetty Wap addressed the speculation himself, revealing that his eye loss was due to a medical condition he developed as a child.
In an interview with DJ Self on Shade 45, Fetty Wap explained that when he was very young, he was involved in an accident that caused congenital glaucoma in both of his eyes.
This rare condition leads to increased pressure around the optic nerve, which can severely damage it and ultimately impair vision.

In Fetty’s case, the pressure and nerve damage were so severe that one of his eyes couldn’t be saved. Thankfully, doctors were able to preserve the vision in his right eye.
Fetty Wap expressed gratitude for retaining sight in at least one eye, saying,
“The doctor saved one. I was blessed to still have my vision. That’s it. That’s the story.”
Despite being offered a prosthetic eye, Fetty chose to stop wearing it in his teenage years as he grew more comfortable with his appearance. He’s even proud of being one of the first mainstream artists to embrace his unique look openly.
“I’m probably one of the first rappers/singers to come on the scene with one eye and be comfortable with it,” he shared.
While Fetty is confident in himself, he admits that people’s reactions can still be intense when they first notice his eye. He reflected,
“A lot of people are judgmental, but it’s all on how you show yourself to the people.”
His story has inspired many fans, especially those facing similar physical challenges, to embrace their differences rather than hide them.
Unfortunately, Fetty Wap’s personal life has also been marked by heartbreak. In 2021, devastating news broke that his 4-year-old daughter, Lauren Maxwell, had tragically passed away. Lauren’s mother, Turquoise Miami, confirmed the loss in an emotional Instagram post.
She described Lauren as an “amazing, beautiful, funny, vibrant, loving, talented, smart, and hardheaded princess mermaid Aquarius.” Turquoise also asked followers to send love to Lauren’s soul, believing that such messages could still be felt by her daughter.
Though rumors had swirled online about Fetty Wap losing a child, he did not immediately comment on the situation.
The cause of Lauren’s death was not publicly shared, but the loss was deeply felt by those who followed the rapper’s journey as both an artist and a father.
