Vin Diesel has revealed that production on Fast Forever, the planned final mainline Fast & Furious movie, could begin in December 2026. The actor shared the potential filming start date while attending a 25th anniversary screening of The Fast and the Furious, where he also discussed the lengthy process behind the franchise’s concluding chapter.
Speaking with Variety, Diesel said the December start depends on whether he can meet a request from the studio. He also made clear that he feels confident about the current script after years of development.
Fast Forever Took Four Years to Reach the Final Script
Diesel explained that Fast Forever went through four different sets of writers and four years of development before reaching a version he considered worthy of ending the long-running franchise.
“I’m in a good place, though. I had to go through four sets of writers, four years of development, to get to something that I felt would be worthy of a finale,”
Diesel told Variety.
The actor revealed that the completed script affected him emotionally, saying that he cried while reading it. During the anniversary screening, he told the audience that he became emotional halfway through the script and was unable to hold back his tears by the end.

Diesel added,
“Sometimes, even the toughest guys in the world need to cry,”
while describing the personal reaction he had to the story.
Fast Forever is set to be the 11th and final mainline installment in the franchise and is currently scheduled to reach theaters on March 17, 2028. The series has become one of Universal’s most commercially successful properties, with its films collectively earning approximately $7.3 billion worldwide.
Director Louis Leterrier, however, recently indicated that he had not yet read the latest script. Speaking to Polygon, Leterrier said there will be an ending and described it as “great,” while remaining cautious about discussing his involvement.
For now, Diesel’s December filming target represents the clearest indication yet that Fast Forever is moving toward production as the franchise approaches its final chapter.
