Tune In to the Midnight Heart is officially coming back for a second season in 2027. NBC Universal has announced that the romantic mystery anime based on Masakuni Igarashi’s manga will continue its story, bringing fans one step closer to uncovering the mystery surrounding Apollo.
Alongside the sequel announcement, the series has also revealed that Arisu Yamabuki’s family will play a larger role, with two new cast members joining the anime.
New Faces Join Arisu’s Household
Season 2 introduces two new members of the Yamabuki family, giving fans a closer look at Arisu’s home life. Ami Koshimizu has been cast as Riina Yamabuki, Arisu’s eldest sister. Although she is the oldest sibling, Riina is said to have a complex about her short height, adding another layer to her personality.
Kaede Hondo joins the cast as Mito Yamabuki, Arisu’s youngest sister. Mito is described as cheerful and easygoing, making her personality a sharp contrast to both her fiery older sister and her eccentric older brother, Arisu. Her bright attitude is expected to bring fresh energy to the family’s interactions.
While the first season focused mainly on Arisu’s search for Apollo, the addition of his sisters suggests that Season 2 will spend more time exploring his personal life. Their arrival also expands the supporting cast and opens the door for new relationships and character-driven moments.
Same Creative Team Returns Behind the Camera
The sequel will reunite the creative team behind the first season, ensuring a consistent style and tone. Masayuki Takahashi returns as director at animation studio Gekkō after leading the first season. His previous directing work includes Butareba: The Story of a Man Turned into a Pig.
Series composition and scripts will once again be handled by Yukie Sugawara, whose credits include Overlord. Her return means fans can expect the same balance of romance, mystery, and emotional storytelling that helped define the anime’s first season.
Keeping the main staff together often helps preserve a series’ identity, and that appears to be the case for Tune In to the Midnight Heart. With the original creative team back in place, the sequel is positioned to continue the story without major changes to its presentation or pacing.
