Atari and Digital Eclipse have officially dropped two major Toy Story game releases for Nintendo platforms, giving both longtime fans and new players a chance to revisit Pixar’s iconic universe. Toy Story: Retro Roundup and Toy Story 3 Complete Edition are set to launch on October 15 for both Nintendo Switch and the upcoming Switch 2, combining nostalgic classics with modern enhancements.

Two Releases, One Nostalgic Celebration

The announcement confirms that both titles will be available as a bundled physical release as well as individual digital purchases. The physical edition will include both games, priced at $40 on Switch and $50 on Switch 2, while digital versions will be available for $25.

Toy Story: Retro Roundup serves as a comprehensive collection of classic titles from the franchise’s early gaming era. It includes Toy Story (1995), Toy Story 2: Buzz Lightyear to the Rescue, Buzz Lightyear of Star Command, and Toy Story Racer, along with A Bug’s Life as a bonus addition. These games, originally released across platforms like PlayStation and SNES, have been difficult to access on modern hardware, making this collection a significant preservation effort.

A Modern Upgrade for a Beloved Classic

Alongside the retro collection, Toy Story 3 Complete Edition brings the 2010 game back with upgraded visuals and expanded content. Originally developed by Avalanche Software, the game was widely praised for its creativity and depth, particularly its innovative Toy Box Mode.

The remastered version includes enhancements such as higher resolutions, improved performance, and previously exclusive content from earlier platform versions. Players can expect smoother gameplay, with support for up to 4K resolution and 60 frames per second on compatible systems. This modern upgrade aims to preserve the charm of the original while making it more accessible to today’s audience.

Mike Mika of Digital Eclipse emphasized the importance of the re-release, stating,

“We’re excited for players to jump back into Toy Story 3 and experience the creativity, humor and heart that makes Toy Story such a landmark franchise”.

His comments reflect the broader goal of reintroducing a standout movie-to-game adaptation to a new generation.

Gameplay Features That Define Both Releases

Toy Story 3 Complete Edition offers a mix of story-driven gameplay and open-ended creativity. The Story Mode allows players to relive key moments from the film, exploring locations like Andy’s Room and Sunnyside Daycare while switching between characters such as Woody, Buzz Lightyear, and Jessie. The game also supports local co-op, encouraging collaborative play.

The standout feature remains Toy Box Mode, a sandbox-style experience where players can build and customize their own environments. This mode introduces non-linear missions, unlockable content, and crossovers with other Pixar characters, making it one of the most ambitious features in a licensed game.

Meanwhile, Toy Story: Retro Roundup focuses on enhancing classic gameplay with modern conveniences. Features like instant rewind, save-anytime functionality, and customizable cheat options make the older titles more accessible. Players can also use “Rex’s Cheat Code” system to unlock characters, levels, and bonus modes, adding flexibility to the experience.

The collection also includes archival content such as behind-the-scenes interviews, rare development materials, and video featurettes. These extras provide insight into the creation of both the films and their game adaptations, offering added value for fans interested in the franchise’s history.
