Blue is a color that often symbolizes positivity and is often associated with reliability, loyalty, and confidence. Conversely, you often see blue used in literature to symbolize sadness, depression, or gloom. The word blue originates from the French word bleu, loosely translated to “of the color of the clear sky.”
It’s no surprise that visual media will use colors on characters to set a mood, define a personality trait or even just create an aesthetic. Hair coloring is generally a huge part of it; it covers a significant part of your head and is a prominent feature. Anime characters have had a long history of vibrant hair colors. Blue hair is often used for characters with shy or reserved personalities but also can be used for characters who are loyal.
Blue Haired Characters In Anime
Let’s take a trip and see some memorable characters with blue hair in the spirit of blue. We shall only include those whose natural hair is blue, so people whose hair turns blue due to abilities or transformations are not included. Characters whose designs were permanently changed to have natural blue hair are included in this list.
1. Ban (Seven Deadly Sins)
In the Fox Sin of Greed, Ban is a member of the Seven Deadly Sins and one of Meliodas’ best friends. He’s known for his laid-back attitude and undying love. He’s proven to be an adept fighter with incredible resilience and can use an ability called Snatch that allows him to rob objects from people without making any physical contact.
The Fox Sin was previously immortal, having drunk from the Fountain of Youth, albeit later sacrificing this power to revive his deceased lover. Ban’s love towards his comrades is also just as great as he willingly goes into Purgatory and endures immense torture and pain in the hopes of rescuing Meliodas. He also shares a light-hearted friendship with King, the two often making fun of each other.
2. Bulma (Dragon Ball)
An important character in the Dragon Ball universe. Apart from Goku, she is the only character who has been there in this multiverse anime. She is famous for her blue hair, being a Goku friend, and Vegeta’s wife. She is the second daughter of Capsule Corporation’s founder Dr. Brief. She is an extraordinary scientist.
Bulma is not physically a fighter, but her gadgets and skills have greatly assisted the lead character. She is also the mother of Trunks and Bulla. However, her appearances and hairstyles change several times during the long run of the anime. But her famous hairstyles consist of Blue, Purple, and Turquoise colored hairs. It is the blue hairs that catch most of the attention.
3. Rem (Re:Zero)
Rem from Re: Zero is a fantastic character having sky-blue hair covering half of her face. On top of it, she has giant pastel blue eyes adding to her beautiful facial features. A maid in service of a lord, Roswaal L. Mathers. She is a prominent supporting character in Re:Zero.
Rem respects her sister Ram out of guilt due to the past and has utter devotion and love towards Subaru since he saved her. She is amongst his most loyal followers of him and will remain on his side no matter the situation. She has magical powers and is great at it. You can Stream Re: Zero on Netflix.
4. Kamina (Tengen Toppa Gurren Laggan)
Kamina is a proud character, tall, well-built, and trademarked spiky blue hair, and red glasses. A boisterous and hotheaded character who calls himself “The mighty Kamina” and has a famous catchphrase, “Just who the hell do you think I am?”.
A pervert who never defended his perversion. He single-handedly built team Dai-Gurren. He is hungry for power and keeps on working hard to maintain that. His chemistry with Simon is excellent to watch; he is like a foster father and supports him. He has devoted himself to saving his friends and close ones. Thus adding another layer to him. His past experiences led him to be this way, and the lost father is the reason why he was so determined to be that way. Therefore, he has a complicated character with an eye-catching style.
5. Hinata Hyuga (Naruto)
The Princess of the Hyuga clan and wife of Naruto, Hinata has been a fan favorite since her first appearance in the original Naruto series. Her warm personality and adorably shy antics won the hearts of fans. She’s praised as one of the few people to value Naruto as a person in his childhood.
Over the years, she has achieved many feats, including facing Pain to save Naruto and assisting Naruto in defeating Toneri, and she is considered one of the strongest Hyuga of her time. Hinata has shown immense empathy for others, including Neji, who in his younger days despised Hinata. She is extremely caring for her friends and will not hesitate to help however she can.
6. Ayato Kirishima (Tokyo Ghoul)
The younger brother of Touka, he was a member of the Aogiri Tree and later the Goat. He is a brash and short-tempered ghoul with a violent view toward survival and believes that the weak must perish. Although he harbors a soft corner for his sister, he is particularly hateful towards Kaneki due to the latter’s resemblance to Ayato’s father, wo he despises for abandonment.
Later down the line, he matures from his brash attitude and becomes much calmer, becoming concerned for his subordinates and wanting to protect them. His affection for his sister far exceeds any other, going so far as to take her alias name so that he would be hunted instead of her.
7. Jellal (Fairy Tail)
Jellal Fernandez is a childhood friend of Erza Scarlet. He is famous for his blue hair, blue eyes, and a red tattoo above his and below his eyes. He is the member and co-founder of the crime sorciere. He wears darker clothing. A white shirt with a blue tint and a dark blue coat with light blue edges. He wears dark, simple, and loose pants tucked inside his laced boots—a toned body with great fighting skills.
As a young guy, he was calm and compassionate. But later, due to circumstances, he changed himself. Still, he treats slaves well enough. He sees his actions as a “game”; however, he also said that the game results in life loss. He lost his memory and regained it after seven years when he returned to being himself again. At heart, he was like the Fairy Tail crew.
8. Rei (Neon Genesis Evangelion)
A stoic-natured and the first child in the series of Neon Genesis Evangelion. Having short pale blue hair and red eyes, Rei Ayanami wears the same uniform throughout. And has a white plugsuit with black, red, or green accents. She rarely interacts with people except for Gendo, to whom she displays loyalty. Rei soon changes her personality among the crew.
Also had a special relationship with Shinji, whom she smiled at. During the long-running of the anime and its various seasons and movies, there were incarnations such as Rei l, Rei ll, and Rei lll. But her famous appearance and blue hair remained the same as her trademark.
9. Konan (Naruto)
Konan is an antagonist in Naruto Shippuden, one of the main members of the Akatsuki. She is the right hand of Pain, a.k.a Nagato, and is often referred to as an angel due to her habit of appearing with white wings. She possesses the ability to turn her body into paper, allowing herself to be invulnerable to most physical attacks.
She is also able to summon weapons made out of special chakra-infused paper and paper bombs for the offense. Although she is a villain, she is later shown to be a kind-hearted person who has endured suffering and was manipulated by Obito.
10. Chojuro (Naruto)
Another character from Naruto Shippuden, Chojuro, is the current Mizukage, earlier the retainer to the previous Mizukage. He is one of the last generations of the Hidden Mist’s seven swordsmen and wields the blade Hiramekarei. Originally a shy and reserved character, he later breaks out of his shell and becomes more confident in his abilities, and strengthens his will to protect the peace. He is an adept user of water-style ninjutsu and can even form weapons with it to wield.
11. Future Trunk (Dragon Ball Super)
Although future Trunks in Dragon Ball Z was shown with lavender hair, the design is changed to blue in the Super Series, now matching his mother’s hair. Future Trunks is the son of Vegeta and Bulma from the alternate timeline where the rest of the Z fighters perished at the hands of Android 17 and 18.
Unlike the trunks from the main timeline Future Trunks is way more serious and mature due to being forced to survive in a near-apocalyptic world. He is very close to Bulma but usually is unable to connect with Vegeta owing to the latter’s cold demeanor, although the two do build a good relationship eventually.
12. Bulla (Dragon Ball Super)
Trunk’s sister in the main timeline, Bulla, is the second child of Bulma and Vegeta. Although still an infant, Bulla has been shown with bright blue hair resembling her mother and alternate-timeline brother.
13. Sinon (Sword Art Online)
Asada Shino, known as Sinon, is a skilled virtual reality gamer. She was the deuteragonist of Phantom Bullet Arc. Her real-life appearances are absolutely different from her online appearance in Gun Gale Online. The online character with short pale blue hair is famous among the fans of the show—her military attire, with bulletproof armor.
In ALfheim online, she is again portrayed with blue hair and cat ears with a green coat and chest armor. In another game called Project Alicization, she again has the trademark blue hairs and blue eyes with white and dark blue apparel. Shino uses her character in the game to overcome her trauma with the guns due to her past experiences.
14. Nagisa Shiota (Assassination Classroom)
Nagisa Shiota is the main protagonist and narrator in the Assassination Classroom. He is a student in Korosensei’s Class 3-E at Kunugigaoka Junior High School. Due to his mother, he keeps his pigtail behind his shoulders. Many people poked him, assuming he was androgynous due to his appearance. His blue hair has been a problem in his situation. Despite being made fun of, he is a shy, reserved, observant, and friendly guy. 15. Touka Kirishima (Tokyo Ghoul)
Now the older sister, Touka, is one of the main characters of the show. She used to work as a waitress at the Anteiku and later joined the goat organization and eventually married Kaneki. She has a dual-sided personality as she is both innately kind but also quick to anger. Much like her brother, she has a habit of often speaking rudely or callously, despite not being to the level of Ayato.
She is very protective of those she cares for and displays immense emotions upon losing someone, willing to go to reckless lengths to stop that from happening. This is rooted in a severe fear of abandonment due to her childhood, which is only cemented further by the departure of Ayato and Kaneki.
16. Tamaki Amajiki (My Hero Academia)
The second member of UA’s Big Three, Tamaki Amajiki, is a deeply anxious and introverted boy who is often rendered nervous by crowds or criticism. He will often avoid public scenarios that put a spotlight on him and will often shrink to the back of a room or stand facing a wall to avoid attention.
Despite this, he is fierce in the face of danger and, through sheer hard work and willpower, rose to the rank of one the strongest heroes in UA. His ability Manifest allows him to manipulate his body and manifest features of anything he consumes. He is noted by other pro heroes to be far above them in power and intellect.
17. Inosuke Hashibira (Demon Slayer)
The young beau with the voice of a wild beast, Inosuke, is one of the most beloved Characters in Demon Slayer. Having grown up in the mountains, Inosuke has a rough and brash approach to life, seen in both his personality and his fighting style.
Despite this, he’s a loyal friend and has a strong sense of justice that motivates him to fight. He wields twin katanas that he alters to give them jagged edges and uses the Beast Breathing style, a subset of Wind Breathing that he invented himself.
18. Suzuno Kamazuki (Devil Is A Part-Timer)
She had a slender figure, aqua eyes, and navy blue hair with a long ponytail on one side and strand framing on the other side of her head. She wears a red flower on her pony, disguised as a weapon. She believes the only appropriate dress is Kimono, and she wears them throughout. She is insensitive most of the time and has a sense of gloom in her character.
Initially, she carries an identity of a naive who used to give noodles to the devil’s apartment as a gift. She seemed simple and sober but had more shades on her. Having a distinct identity and playing it along the way to fulfill her intentions was her real identity. But her love for the outdated Japanese way of living was the one thing that remained a trait. And so is an interesting character.
19. Black Star (Soul Eater)
Black Star is the last survivor of the Star clan. A shadow weapon meister and an assassin. His weapon partner is Tsubaki Nakatsukasa. An arrogant young boy with a huge ego who is hungry for power and is assumed by people to choose a demon’s path.
At the same time, he is also proactive and protective towards his close ones, the same way they are towards him. He has star-shaped light blue hairs as well as a star tattooed on his shoulder. His apparel consists of a sleeveless black shirt with a funnel-like collar and full-length jeans. In the last chapter of the book of Eibon, he switches gender. But his character remains the same, the attention-seeking young girl. Again with the blue hair, which is his trademark.
20. Gintoki Sakata (Gintama)
One may wonder why Gintoki Sakata is a part of this list. But he is the most qualified for this list. Gintoki, the most popular and loved character in one of the best comedy anime, Gintama, has a pale blue tint on his silver hairs. Most of his wavy hairstyles seem silver; in the end, it has blue paint. He is also called the “white demon” or ” white night” due to his apparel, which he wore during the Amanto war, and being the fiercest Samurai on the field.
However, he becomes eccentric after the war but remains sane and calm. In the world, after Amanto controls the government, he starts his own business as odd jobs. With Kagura (Yato clan) and Shinpachi as his employees. He is like a guardian character and is amusing for most of the story.
When it appears to be a danger, Gintoki becomes amazing Samurai who fights for what is right. His chemistry with every character is the best part of Gintama. And is always said to have “dead fish eyes.” His hairs are a part for which he gets recognition among other characters and distinguishes him from others.
21. Grimmjow Jaegerjaquez (Bleach)
Commonly considered Ichigo’s rival in the Bleach verse, Grimmjow is a member of Arrancar and the Sexta Espada. He’s also one of the main antagonists or, in some cases, the anti-hero of the series. He was originally a panther-type Adjuchas who joined Shawlong and his group in their joint dream of becoming a Vasto Lorde.
This brutal and short-tempered fighter is obsessed with defeating Ichigo and will go to great lengths to ensure this goal is seen complete. However, he is also an honorable fighter, seeking a fair match and refusing to fight when his opponent is disadvantaged. Despite this, he’s often brash and has no respect for authority, a point of problem for others.
22. Nejire Hado (My Hero Academia)
This adorable hero from My Hero Academia is one of the big three, aka, the three strongest students of UA. She possesses an ability called Wave that allows her to convert her life energy into physical beams that can be used for offense or movement. She works alongside the dragon hero Ryukyu and plays a major role in the team that fights off the League of Villains.
She’s popular for her bubbly and cheerful personality and childlike curiosity. She takes great interest in the quirks of others, particularly quirks with physical manifestations, asking direct questions that often make others comfortable.
23. Nefertari Vivi (One Piece)
Princess of Arabasta and the daughter of Nefertari Cobra, this former bounty hunter was an antagonist for most of the Reverse Mountain arc. She eventually joins Luffy’s Straw Hat Pirates and remains an honorary member, although having returned to her home country to help it.
She’s been noted to be very courageous and fiercely loyal to her friends and the citizens of her kingdom. She’s often used as a comedy gag for being oblivious to danger and being late to warn others but has proven on various occasions to be very cunning and deceptive.
24. Mitsuki (Boruto)
Mitsuki is the genetically cloned child of Orochimaru and a member of the new team 7. He is a kind-hearted and simple boy who seems to want to just go along with whatever Boruto wants, describing the latter as his “sun.” Mitsuki is a skilled fighter, having been trained by Orochimaru, and shows an affinity towards lightning and Wind. Additionally, owing to his parent’s genes, he has the same snake-related abilities as Orochimaru.
25. Megumi Tadokoro (Shokugeki no Soma)
Megumi was one of the residents of the Polar Star Dormitory and a student in the 92nd generation of Totsuki. She later takes up the role of the 10th seat of the new Elite Ten. She has a fluid cooking style that isn’t based on a particular cuisine but is rooted in the idea of hospitality, allowing her food to have flavors that elicit warmth and comfort. She is generally a shy and polite individual who is prone to nervous outbreaks.
26. Henry Legoland (Black Clover)
A nobleman and a Junior Magic Knight in the Black Bull squad. Born with an illness, Henry is forced to absorb magic energy from others to survive, leading his parents to abandon him until he is discovered by Yami. He is a compassionate and gentle soul that cherishes friendships and is willing to sacrifice himself for them.
Due to being a nobleman, he possesses a large amount of magic power; aside from this, any magic power he passively absorbs from others can also be used by him to cast spells. His primary ability is Recombination Magic, which allows him to change the shape of his magic house as an offensive machine.
27. Levy McGarden (Fairytale)
The leader of the Shadow Gear and a mage in the Fairytale Guild is a cheerful presence with a kind spirit. Although she is reluctant to engage in unnecessary fights, she does not shy away from competitiveness when necessary.

He is known for the ability to see the memories of others through Memory Magic.
29. Grey (Black Clover)
While initially appearing as a large, heavy-set man with black hair, we eventually find out that the shy Grey is actually a short young woman with light blue hair. Due to her shyness, she often changes form in order to cope with it. Grey is endlessly kind and forgiving, the type of person that hopes to create good relationships with people that are mean to her. She is a 3rd Class Junior Knight with the ability to transmute both physical and magical objects.
30. Sailor Mercury (Sailor Moon)
This shy and reserved lady is one of the four Inner Sailor Guardians. Her powers are centered around water and ice. In her civilian life, she is a student by the name of Ami Mizuno, a typically nerdy kid who regularly tops national exams. As a member of the inner Sailors, she defends the Princess’s serenity. She is the second Senshi to be recruited by Luna.
31. Kasumi Miwa (Jujutsu Kaisen)
She is a second-year student at Kyoto Jujutsu High and an ardent admirer of Gojo. Compared to her jaded classmates, she is much kinder and down to earth, as opposed to Mai or Noritoshi. She wields basic cursed energy techniques and lacks a unique technique of her own.
She is also a skilled swordsman and wields a katana imbued with cursed energy and uses it for Shadow Style techniques. However, she is very insecure about her abilities, often referring to herself as “useless Miwa” and considers herself as not much of an asset without access to her sword.
32. Juvia Lockser (Fairy Tale)
Juvia is an ex-S-Class Mage in the Phantom Lord guild. She was a member of Element 4, the guild’s elite team. Though normally an emotionless and distant individual, she later opens up once she joins the Fairy Tale and develops an immense affection for Gray Fullbuster, edging on almost worship. Her abilities revolve around creating and manipulating water and also turning herself into a water state.
33. Aqua (Konosuba)
The goddess of water, Aqua, is a hilarious character. While generally being kind and helpful, she s often shortsighted and doesn’t think of consequences before doing something. She thrives on the praise and worship of people, something that often ruins her actions due to her aggressively seeking praise. She has access to divine powers and holy magic due to her status as a goddess.
34. Shuu Tsukiyama (Tokyo Ghoul)
This creepy ghoul (vaguely reminiscent of Hisoka) is one of the few who consider themselves gourmets, choosing to be particularly careful about who they’ll pick to eat. He initially joins Kanke’s group with the secret desire to eat him, although he eventually grows to care for Kaneki. He generally dresses in fancy suits and is the head of the very wealthy and influential Tsukiyama family and a member of the ghoul restaurant MM.
35. Saiko Yonebayashi (Tokyo Ghoul)
Another Tokyo Ghoul character, Saiko, is a rank 2 Ghoul Investigator and the deputy squad leader of the Quinx team. She’s generally portrayed as a rather lazy individual who prefers video games and food over work. Despite coming off as insecure or unmotivated, Saiko has proved that she’s quite intelligent and skilled at kagune manipulation.
