Tokyo Ghoul fans are once again experiencing emotional whiplash, and this time it is thanks to the creator himself. On April Fools’ Day, Sui Ishida posted what looked like an official reboot announcement for the Tokyo Ghoul anime. The poster was beautifully designed, featuring Kaneki in a new art style with dramatic lighting and a tagline that suggested a faithful adaptation of the original manga.

At first glance, it looked completely real, and many fans instantly believed a modern remake was finally happening. Within hours, the tweet spread across social media, reaching hundreds of thousands of likes and shares.

For a brief moment, the community erupted with excitement. Tokyo Ghoul has a massive global fanbase, and many have been longing for a reboot for years. They still remember how the original anime adaptation changed and rushed key story arcs, leaving out important moments and altering characters in ways that frustrated manga readers.

A remake with better pacing, updated animation, and closer adherence to the source material is one of the most requested projects in the anime world. Because of this, the poster Ishida shared hit the fandom right in the heart, giving them hope for something they had been wishing for since the mid-2010s.

But a few hours later, Ishida clarified that the poster was nothing more than an April Fools’ joke. That single reveal completely shifted the tone from celebration to chaos. Fans flooded the replies with disbelief, sarcasm, and lighthearted anger. Many joked that Ishida had committed a crime greater than anything shown in the story.

Others said they could not believe they fell for it again, as he has a history of dropping surprising art and cryptic posts that spark rumors. The joke was simple, harmless, and perfectly timed, but for Tokyo Ghoul fans, it felt like emotional sabotage.

Some fans admitted they laughed at the prank once their initial disappointment faded. They said it was very on-brand for Ishida, who enjoys playful interactions and unexpected surprises. However, many others said they were not ready to forgive him.

The wound left by the original anime still stings for many, and the idea of a reboot brings out strong emotions. Seeing such a detailed and believable poster, only for it to be fake, felt cruel to them. One fan posted that the joke “hurt more than Kaneki’s entire character arc,” while another wrote that Ishida should “never be allowed to post anything on April 1 again.”

Even after the clarification, the poster kept circulating on platforms like Reddit, TikTok, and Instagram, confusing people who missed the original tweet. Some thought it was actually real news and began discussing what studio might animate the reboot.

Others were impressed by the design and said they hoped the popularity of the fake poster would convince studios to consider a real remake. The prank unintentionally sparked a new wave of conversation about the future of Tokyo Ghoul, showing how much demand still exists for a fresh adaptation.

The emotional reaction also reflects how attached fans are to the story and its characters. Tokyo Ghoul had a huge cultural impact when it first released. Its themes of identity, trauma, and survival continue to resonate with readers today.

Even people who did not enjoy the anime as much still praise the manga as one of the strongest dark fantasy stories of its era. The idea of seeing it animated properly someday remains a wish shared by fans worldwide.

Sui Ishida’s Prank Goes Viral as Fans React with Shock, Laughter, and Frustration

Interestingly, the prank also led to a renewed debate about the original anime adaptation. Some fans argue that the first season was strong and only the later seasons lost direction. Others insist that the entire series needs a reboot from the ground up.

Many people compared the situation to series like Fullmetal Alchemist, which received a new adaptation after its first version diverged from the source material. They believe Tokyo Ghoul deserves the same treatment, especially given how iconic the story and its art are.

In the aftermath of the prank, discussions shifted toward whether a reboot is even possible. Some think the renewed attention could encourage a studio to pick up the project. Others worry that anime studios may avoid it because of the franchise’s dark themes and complex storytelling. Regardless of these concerns, fans agree on one thing: the desire for a faithful remake has only grown stronger.

While Ishida’s April Fools’ joke may have caused temporary heartbreak, it also reminded people how deeply invested they still are in Tokyo Ghoul. The reaction shows that the series continues to hold a powerful place in the anime world.

Even years after its ending, it can stir emotions instantly, whether through genuine announcements or playful pranks. And although fans say they have not forgiven Ishida yet, the truth is that many also appreciated the humor behind the chaos. They simply hope that next time, he surprises them with something real.
