The siblings supported each other, one physically weak but lovely, the other ugly yet fiercely protective. For a time, they managed to survive the harshness of Yoshiwara. However, tragedy struck when a samurai burned Ume horribly after an altercation.
This backstory gives greater meaning to Gyutaro and Daki’s demonic bond – two outcasts clinging to the only person who cared for them. Their devotion persisted even in monstrous reincarnation. Understanding these origins makes their eventual defeat more poignant.
Gyutaro was dedicated to staying by his sister’s side to keep her safe. But the one time he wasn’t there to protect Ume, the unthinkable happened – she was killed.
