The First Descendant developers have issued a notice about unusually high RAM usage affecting some PC players, warning that the problem can lead to performance drops and prevent the game from running properly. Published on October 20, 2026, the official notice says the team is investigating the cause and examining a possible connection to the NVIDIA graphics driver’s shader cache.
Until a permanent solution is available, players experiencing the issue can try clearing the NVIDIA DirectX shader cache. The developers stressed that this is only a temporary workaround and may not resolve the problem in every system configuration.
The issue is particularly relevant for players encountering sudden stuttering or frame-rate drops during gameplay. Nexon has apologized for the inconvenience and said it will provide further updates as its investigation progresses.
HOW TO CLEAR THE NVIDIA SHADER CACHE
According to the official notice from The First Descendant, affected players can try these steps:
-
Completely close The First Descendant.
-
Open Windows File Explorer and enter
%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\NVIDIA\DXCachein the address bar. -
Delete the cache files inside the folder. Skip any files Windows says are currently in use.
-
Restart the PC and launch the game again.
The shader cache will rebuild when the game starts, so temporary stuttering may occur during the process. Nexon cautions that this workaround may not work for every PC and has not confirmed the root cause or a permanent fix yet.
