The Apothecary Diaries is expanding beyond television with its first feature film, and fans in North America will now have the chance to see the new mystery on the big screen.
Crunchyroll and Sony Pictures Entertainment have confirmed that The Apothecary Diaries: The Late Lady’s Treasure will receive a theatrical release across North America, as well as additional territories worldwide outside Asia. The companies have not announced a specific international release date yet.
THE APOTHECARY DIARIES MOVIE TELLS AN ORIGINAL STORY
The film is scheduled to premiere in Japanese theaters on December 11, 2026. Unlike a direct adaptation of the existing light novels, the movie features an original story concept from series creator Natsu Hyūga, giving Maomao a new mystery to solve.
Norihiro Naganuma, who served as director and series composer on the first season, returns to direct the theatrical project for TOHO animation STUDIO. The movie is expected to expand the franchise’s mystery-driven storytelling while giving Maomao and Jinshi a new case separate from the main light novel storyline.
The confirmation of a North American theatrical release is particularly significant because earlier announcements had only confirmed the movie’s Japanese debut. TOHO animation’s official materials previously described the project as the franchise’s first feature-length film and confirmed that Hyūga was providing the original story.
SEASON 3 CONTINUES ALONGSIDE THE MOVIE
The movie arrives during an especially busy period for the franchise. The Apothecary Diaries Season 3 began its first cour in October 2026 and will return with its second cour in April 2027. Crunchyroll has confirmed streaming availability for North America, Europe, Oceania, the Middle East and the Indian subcontinent, among other territories.
The film is also part of a wider expansion for the franchise, with a new video game planned for 2027 and a live-action adaptation reportedly in development for Prime Video.
For now, international fans have confirmation that The Apothecary Diaries: The Late Lady’s Treasure is coming to North American theaters, but they will need to wait for Crunchyroll and Sony Pictures to announce the exact release date.
