Teen Mom alum Bariki ‘Bar’ Smith is facing serious trouble as alarming details about his recent arrest come to light. Smith’s estranged wife, Ashley Jones, who stars on Teen Mom: The Next Chapter, was the victim of his violent behavior. Police reports show that Smith kidnapped Jones and held her hostage in her Las Vegas apartment after discovering she was seeing someone new.
According to The U.S Sun, Smith saw pictures of Jones and her new boyfriend on Instagram. He then drove across state lines to confront Jones at her home. Smith was arrested and charged with second-degree kidnapping, domestic violence, and residential burglary on July 7, 2024.
This news follows the couple’s split in March 2024, after Jones filed for divorce. US Weekly confirmed their separation after 3 years of marriage. Court documents reveal that Jones was seeking sole custody of their 6-year-old daughter, Holly Smith. Reports also indicate that Jones asked for no visitation rights for Smith due to multiple felony charges against him.
What Really Happened Between Bariki Smith and Ashley Jones
On July 6, 2024, Ashley Jones posted a photo with her new boyfriend on Instagram, which led to the unfolding events. A few days before this, an arrest warrant was issued for Smith due to unpaid child support. As reported by The Ashley’s Reality Roundup, Jones’s mother, Tasheilia Tea Chapple, called 911 on the morning of July 7, 2024, pleading for help.
Chapple told the police that Jones was very upset after Smith said he was coming to Nevada from California. She informed the police that her daughter was being held hostage in her apartment. In the 911 call, Chapple is heard desperately asking officers to rescue her daughter.
Chapple revealed she was on the phone with Jones when she found Smith inside the apartment before the call was cut off, prompting her to call for help.
According to the police report, Chapple was at Jones’s door when the police arrived, crying and fearful for her daughter. When officers attempted to enter, Smith reportedly tried to mislead them, claiming they were at the wrong house. Eventually, Jones came outside and told the police she did not want Smith in her home. The report notes:
“Ashley was very scared of Bariki. She was crying, shaking, and very emotional.”
