Prime Video has expanded the cast of Bloodaxe Season 2 with five new actors joining the upcoming Norse historical drama. The announcement is particularly notable because the series has already begun filming its second season in Ireland even before its highly anticipated first season has made its debut.

According to the official announcement from Prime Video, Gard Løkke has joined the series as a regular, while Melina Åkerman, Kieran Bew, Sebastian Bull and George Burgess will appear in recurring roles. The new additions bring further experience in historical dramas, fantasy and action projects to the growing ensemble.

Bloodaxe is created, written and executive produced by Michael and Horatio Hirst. The series chronicles the rise of Erik Bloodaxe, one of history’s most famous Norse raiders, and his wife Gunnhild, known as the Mother of Kings. Xavier Molyneux stars as Erik Bloodaxe, while Jessica Madsen plays Gunnhild.

Bloodaxe Season 2 Cast Expands With Five New Actors

Gard Løkke, known for Home for Christmas and The Trip to the Northern Lights, will join Bloodaxe Season 2 as a series regular. Melina Åkerman, whose credits include Succedera Questa Notte and Granite Harbour, is among the actors taking on recurring roles.

Kieran Bew, who appeared in House of the Dragon and Beowulf, has also joined the historical drama. Sebastian Bull, known for 2 Days and Azrael, and George Burgess, whose credits include Beast and Spartacus: House of Ashur, complete the newly announced group of recurring cast members.

Prime Video has not yet revealed the characters the five actors will play, leaving details about their roles in Erik and Gunnhild’s expanding story under wraps.

The first season of Bloodaxe will follow Erik and Gunnhild as they fight for the throne of Norway. Their quest for power unfolds in a kingdom divided by fierce rivals, shifting loyalties and bloody betrayals, while the conflict draws in Scandinavian rulers and a powerful English king.

The official synopsis promises a large-scale Norse saga built around war, political ambition and family power. With the series already moving into production on Season 2, Prime Video appears confident in its upcoming historical epic before audiences have even seen its first chapter.

Bloodaxe is produced by MGM Television, with Michael and Horatio Hirst serving as showrunners, writers and executive producers. Morgan O’Sullivan, Steve Stark, Arturo Interian, John Weber and Sheila Hockin also serve as executive producers.

The series will premiere exclusively on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide, although a release date for Season 1 has not yet been announced.
