Prime Video has announced September 24 as the premiere date for Go Deep: The DeSean Jackson Story, a new feature-length sports documentary examining the life and football career of former NFL wide receiver DeSean Jackson. The film will premiere exclusively on Prime Video across more than 240 countries and territories worldwide.
Alongside the release date, Prime Video has revealed the documentary’s official trailer and key art, offering viewers a first look at the personal story behind Jackson’s career. Rather than focusing solely on his accomplishments on the field, the documentary follows the family relationships, sacrifices, conflicts and ambitions that shaped his journey.
Produced by Adam McKay’s HyperObject Industries alongside Cover Story and JacksonOneMedia, the film uses an unusually extensive collection of personal footage recorded by Jackson’s older brother, Byron.
DeSean Jackson’s Football Journey Takes Center Stage
Go Deep: The DeSean Jackson Story draws from thousands of hours of home-video footage filmed by Byron Jackson over 35 years. Byron was also a talented football player, spending two years on the Kansas City Chiefs practice squad before leaving professional football and pursuing filmmaking.
His decision gave the documentary access to moments that extend well beyond conventional sports interviews and archival highlights. The footage follows DeSean from his childhood through Pop Warner football, his development at Long Beach Polytechnic High School and his college career at the University of California, Berkeley.
The documentary also examines the influence of their father, Bill Jackson, who believed football could transform his family’s future. His determination led him to push his sons intensely, with his expectations creating both opportunities and conflicts throughout DeSean’s development.
DeSean ultimately turned that pressure into an extraordinary professional career. After being overlooked because of his size at several stages, he established himself as one of the NFL’s most explosive playmakers during a 15-year career with the Eagles, Commanders, Buccaneers, Raiders, Ravens and Rams.
He finished his NFL career with 641 receptions and 66 touchdowns, including four punt-return scores. Jackson remains the only player in NFL history to score a walk-off touchdown on a punt return, accomplishing the feat against the New York Giants in 2010.
He also holds the NFL record for career touchdowns of at least 60 yards, with 26. Today, Jackson has moved into coaching as the head football coach of the Delaware State Hornets in the MEAC.
The documentary is designed to explore more than those achievements. It revisits difficult decisions Jackson made as a teenager, college athlete and adult while examining how his family’s expectations affected his path.
Written and directed by Mandon Lovett, the production is executive produced by Adam McKay and Todd Schulman for HyperObject Industries, alongside Byron Jackson, DeSean Jackson and J.M. Harper. Scott Kaplan and Emmet McDermott serve as producers for Cover Story.
