Prime Video has officially set the premiere date and released the first key art for its revival of the iconic competition series American Gladiators, signaling the return of one of television’s most recognizable physical game formats. Hosted by Mike “The Miz” Mizanin and Rocsi Diaz, the reimagined series is scheduled to debut on April 17, 2026, with a structured rollout designed to maintain weekly momentum.
The 10-episode season will launch with its first three episodes on April 17, followed by three additional episodes on April 24, and concluding with the final four episodes on May 1. The series will be available exclusively on Prime Video across more than 240 countries and territories, reinforcing the platform’s global distribution strategy for large-scale entertainment formats.
At its core, American Gladiators retains the high-intensity competitive structure that originally defined the franchise. Each episode brings together amateur male and female contenders from across the country, placing them inside the Arena to compete against a roster of 16 newly introduced Gladiators.
These competitors are designed to test participants across multiple physical and strategic dimensions, ensuring a balance between athleticism and tactical decision-making.
The reboot incorporates a blend of legacy events and newly developed challenges. Classic fan-favorite competitions such as Joust, Powerball, Hang Tough, and The Wall return, maintaining continuity with the original format.
Alongside these, the series introduces new high-impact events, including The Ring and Collision, expanding the scope and intensity of the competition. Each challenge is structured to push contenders to their limits, requiring a combination of endurance, agility, and mental focus.
The stakes remain a central component of the format. Over the course of the season, competitors will battle through successive rounds, with only one male and one female contender ultimately emerging victorious. Each winner will earn $100,000 and the title of American Gladiator Champion, reinforcing the show’s emphasis on both prestige and reward.
Behind the scenes, the production is led by Johnny C. Ferraro, the original creator of American Gladiators, who returns as executive producer.
Daniel Calin serves as showrunner and executive producer, working alongside Barry Poznick. The production team also includes co-executive producers Susan Janis-Mashayekhi, Sarah Happel Jackson, and Adam Cooper. Direction is handled by Ramy Romany, with the series produced by Amazon MGM Studios.
With its combination of nostalgic elements and modernized competition design, American Gladiators aims to appeal to both longtime fans and a new generation of viewers. The release strategy, coupled with a refreshed presentation and global availability, positions the series as a key addition to Prime Video’s unscripted programming slate.
