To celebrate the 25th anniversary of One Piece, the anime will be focusing on new perspectives with a special episode titled ONE PIECE FAN LETTER.
This episode is set to air on October 20 and will go through how ordinary people in One Piece view the Straw Hat Pirates.
While the series often focuses on the crew’s adventures, this special will take a step back and show how they are seen through the eyes of the public.
The idea comes from Tomohito Ohsaki’s Straw Hat Stories novel, which offers short stories about different characters’ experiences with the famous pirate crew.
The trailer for the episode has been released, featuring a visual of a young girl staring at a wall of wanted posters.
Megumi Ishitani, who directed several fan-favorite episodes and openings, will helm this special.
The script is being written by Momoka Toyoda, known for My Happy Marriage, while Keisuke Mori will handle character designs and animation direction.
Mori has previously contributed to opening 26 of the series. The team behind this project brings a lot of talent and experience, promising a unique and engaging episode for fans.
Straw Hat Stories, the source material, presents a collection of different tales from various viewpoints, each centered on a member of the Straw Hat crew.
One of these stories involves a Marine reflecting on Luffy’s attempts to save Ace during the Marineford War, drawing parallels to their own bond with their younger brother.
Another tale follows Zoro as he argues with someone about who the greatest swordsman is after the events of Dressrosa.
There’s even a story about a kid pirating one of Soul King Brook’s concerts on the Sabaody Archipelago. However, it hasn’t been revealed which specific stories will be adapted for the special.
Fans of the series can stream the entire One Piece anime on Crunchyroll. The long-running anime, based on Eiichiro Oda’s manga, follows the adventures of Monkey D. Luffy and his quest to become the King of the Pirates.
