Fresh rumors surrounding Grand Theft Auto 6 suggest that a Nintendo Switch 2 version could still be in development.
While Rockstar Games has only confirmed the game for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on November 19, 2026, a new report claims that key technical obstacles preventing a Switch 2 release may have been overcome.
Rumor points to progress on a Switch 2 version
The latest claim comes from leaker NWeedle, who posted on X that the “technical hurdles have been overcome” and added that “specialists in Switch 2 ports have been brought in via subcontract.” According to the leaker, the reported Switch 2 version is still in development but is not expected to be released this year.
The rumor gained additional attention after industry insider Shpeshal Nick responded, writing,
“For what it’s worth, I haven’t heard ‘it’s coming’ but I’ve heard they’re working with Rockstar/Take-Two to make to try and make it happen.”
While this doesn’t confirm the game’s existence on Nintendo’s new hardware, it suggests discussions about a potential port may be ongoing.

This isn’t the first time a Switch 2 version has been rumored. In late 2025, leaker NateTheHate claimed Rockstar had been testing GTA 6 on Nintendo’s console, while noting that testing did not necessarily guarantee a commercial release.
Rockstar has yet to confirm a Nintendo release
Despite the growing speculation, Rockstar Games and Take-Two Interactive have not announced a Nintendo Switch 2 version of GTA 6. Until an official statement is made, the reports should be treated as rumors.
The speculation comes shortly after Rockstar confirmed GTA 6’s pricing, with the Standard Edition priced at $69.99 and the Ultimate Edition at $89.99 in the United States. Rockstar also revealed that physical editions will include a download code instead of a game disc, a decision that has sparked debate among collectors and prompted some retailers to reconsider stocking the game.
Performance expectations have also become a talking point. Speaking to Digital Foundry, analyst Will Judd questioned whether the game could realistically achieve 60fps, saying,
“Unfortunately, the level of detail evident in the trailer, preorder screenshots and other, more recent footage seems extremely challenging to scale down in a way that allows for a 60fps mode.”
For now, GTA 6 remains officially confirmed only for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, with any potential Nintendo Switch 2 release remaining unverified.
