Netflix is reportedly developing a live-action series based on Atlus’ popular Persona video game franchise. According to a news report, the adaptation is being developed with a creative team that includes well-known names from television and film, marking the latest attempt to bring the acclaimed JRPG series to a wider audience.

Who’s Behind the Adaptation

Christopher Monfette has reportedly joined Netflix’s live-action Persona series as writer, showrunner, and executive producer. Monfette is best known for his work on Star Trek: Picard, 12 Monkeys, and 9-1-1, and is also attached to Marvel’s upcoming VisionQuest series.

The project is also backed by 21 Laps Entertainment, the production company behind Stranger Things. Shawn Levy will serve as a producer alongside Dan Levine and Robert Atwood. Story Kitchen, the company behind several video game adaptations, is also producing the series with Dmitri M. Johnson, Michael Lawrence Goldberg, and Timothy I. Stevenson. Sega’s Toru Nakahara will executive produce on behalf of the game’s publisher.

While the reported creative team has generated excitement among fans, Netflix has not officially confirmed the project. According to Variety, the company declined to comment, and key details—including the cast, release timeline, and which Persona game the series will adapt—have not yet been announced.

ersona Into a Live-Action Series

Persona is a popular role-playing game franchise from Atlus and a spin-off of the Shin Megami Tensei series. First released in 1996, the games follow high school students who balance everyday life with battles against supernatural forces. They fight using powerful manifestations of their inner selves known as Personas.

One of the franchise’s defining features is its mix of everyday school life and turn-based RPG gameplay. Players spend time building friendships, attending classes, and exploring the character’s personal lives before entering mysterious worlds to face powerful enemies. This unique blend of storytelling and gameplay has helped Persona become one of the most successful and influential JRPG franchises.

A live-action adaptation would also continue Netflix’s growing lineup of video game adaptations. The streaming service has previously released series based on popular gaming franchises, including The Witcher, Arcane, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, and Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft.

Where the Franchise Stands Right Now

The live-action series news comes at a busy time for the Persona franchise. Persona 3 Reload, a remake of the 2006 classic, is available on PlayStation, Xbox, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2. Meanwhile, Persona 4 Revival, a remake of the 2008 game, is scheduled to launch on February 18, 2027, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

Earlier in June 2026, Atlus also confirmed that Persona 6 is officially in development for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. With a new mainline game on the way, the reported Netflix adaptation arrives as interest in the franchise continues to grow.

At the time of writing, Netflix has not announced a release date, cast, or which Persona game the live-action series will adapt. More details are expected to be shared through official Netflix channels as development progresses.
