MARRIAGETOXIN Season 2 is set to raise the stakes with bigger action sequences, eccentric new rivals, and more marriage prospects for protagonist Hikaru Gero. During the “MARRIAGETOXIN Road to the Best Marriage!” panel at New York Comic Con 2026, the anime’s production staff discussed the creative challenges behind the first season and their plans for the upcoming sequel.
Director Motonobu Hori, chief animation director and character designer Kohei Tokuoka, and Bandai Namco Filmworks chief producer Ryoya Arisawa attended the panel to reflect on the series’ development. Their discussion covered the difficulty of translating the original manga’s rapid action and distinctive character designs into animation.
The panel also offered a closer look at the creative direction of MARRIAGETOXIN Season 2, which is scheduled to premiere globally in January 2027. Tokuoka demonstrated his drawing skills with a live illustration of Mei Kinosaki while the staff explained how they intend to build on the first season’s success.
MARRIAGETOXIN STAFF EXPLAIN SEASON 1’S ANIMATION CHALLENGES
Hori recalled that adapting Joumyaku and Mizuki Yoda’s manga presented considerable challenges because of its frequent action sequences and fast pacing.
“When I read the original manga, I felt it would be extremely difficult to adapt into anime,”
the director explained. He added that the production team initially had to work out how to balance the action and establish the pacing of the series.
Tokuoka highlighted the manga’s distinctive visual identity as another major challenge. The numerous unusual characters and imaginative designs required careful consideration to ensure they translated effectively to the screen.
Arisawa also praised the dedication of the cast and production staff. He explained that the team gradually developed a deeper understanding of the series as production progressed, eventually growing attached to its characters and unusual world.
SEASON 2 PROMISES BIGGER FIGHTS AND MORE ECCENTRIC RIVALS
According to Hori, the upcoming season will expand the scale and intensity of the action while continuing Gero’s search for a marriage partner.
“In Season 2, Gero will keep meeting new marriage prospects, and even more eccentric, crazy rivals will show up one after another,”
Hori said. He also confirmed that the action sequences have been upgraded, promising viewers an experience that builds on the first season.
Arisawa described expanding the anime’s unusual charm as one of the sequel’s central creative challenges. While the first season introduced audiences to the series’ unconventional combination of romance and action, the second season can build on viewers’ familiarity with its world and characters.
Hori also reassured fans that production is progressing with the January 2027 premiere in mind. He said the team is putting everything into completing the upcoming season.
