Manga Mavericks Books has announced its Q3 Summer publishing lineup, revealing seven manga releases scheduled to arrive in North America between late July and September. The new slate includes four brand-new series launches alongside three new volumes for continuing titles, further expanding the catalog of the recently established manga publisher.
The announcement showcases a diverse selection of genres, ranging from fantasy and revenge action to science fiction and comedy. Readers can look forward to print debuts for Horon of the Closed Country, FISHGOD, and The Pipe Machine, while Vegetable Sandwich will launch in both print and digital editions. The publisher will also continue supporting existing series with new digital volumes of Horon of the Closed Country, FISHGOD, and Zigoku’s Foreman.
Originally known for its manga news podcast and editorial coverage, Manga Mavericks has steadily evolved into a multimedia company. Through Manga Mavericks Books, it aims to introduce more Japanese creators and unique stories to North American audiences while broadening its presence in the manga publishing industry.
Four New Manga Series Lead the Summer Lineup
The first release arrives on July 28 with Horon of the Closed Country Vol. 1 by Sen. The fantasy drama follows three individuals whose lives have been altered by a mysterious Protective God that demands sacrifices to shield an ancient land from outside threats. As they investigate the deity’s growing influence, they begin uncovering connections between their personal losses and the world’s fragile balance.
Launching on the same day is FISHGOD Vol. 1 by Chlona, an action series set in a world overrun by monstrous land-walking fish known as Kaigyo. After witnessing the creatures kill his parents, protagonist Jaytle Nish dedicates his life to exterminating them while searching for answers about the mysterious figure controlling the monsters. The story blends revenge, supernatural mystery, and striking pop art-inspired visuals.
Readers looking for something more unconventional can pick up The Pipe Machine Vols. 1-2 by Takuji Umihara on August 25. The bundled release follows Saburo, an ordinary boy whose father’s bizarre time machine launches him into a strange adventure across space filled with robots, eccentric characters, and time-traveling chaos.
The final new series is Vegetable Sandwich Vol. 1 by Banjo Saitou, releasing in print and digital on September 29. Inspired by classic 1980s shonen manga, the comedy centers on unlikely friends Tsukushi, a timid high school student who looks intimidating, and Warabi, an extraordinarily strong elementary school girl. Their unusual friendship begins after a chance encounter involving an escaped zoo lion.
Continuing Series Receive New Digital Volumes
Manga Mavericks Books is also expanding three ongoing titles with digital-only releases.
Zigoku’s Foreman Vol. 2, available on August 25, continues the supernatural workplace comedy as monster hunter Mizuchi balances dangerous assignments, unexpected admirers, and life in hell. The series mixes action with humor while following its overworked protagonist through increasingly bizarre encounters.
The same day also marks the digital release of Horon of the Closed Country Vol. 2. The sequel follows Darshna, Horon, and Kera as they travel to the Town of the Shrine Maiden, where long-buried memories and past relationships resurface during a festival honoring the region’s shrine maiden.
On September 29, FISHGOD Vol. 2 continues Jaytle’s quest for revenge after he accepts a secret mission involving a cosmetics company suspected of having ties to the organization controlling the deadly Kaigyo. The investigation leads to new conspiracies and the appearance of a mysterious figure connected to Jaytle’s past.
