Lovelyz’s Jeong Yein is officially joining Netflix’s popular medical drama “The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call,” taking over the role of nurse Cheon Jang Mi for the upcoming second and third seasons.
The casting confirmation comes after several days of reports and denials surrounding the actress’s possible participation in the new seasons.
On September 29, Netflix confirmed that Jeong Yein had been selected as the successor to Ha Young, who portrayed Cheon Jang Mi in the first season.
The confirmation followed an earlier report that key members of the upcoming cast, including Jeong Yein, would gather for their first script reading before having a meal together.
The development is particularly notable because Jeong Yein’s casting had initially remained uncertain.
On September 23, reports claimed that the Lovelyz member would take over Ha Young’s character in Seasons 2 and 3.
At the time, however, Jeong Yein’s agency SUBLIME denied that discussions regarding her appearance had taken place, while Netflix stated that casting discussions were still underway and that nothing had been finalized.
Just days later, the situation changed with Netflix officially confirming Jeong Yein’s casting.
She will now step into the role of Cheon Jang Mi, continuing the character in the upcoming seasons while bringing her own interpretation to the nurse who became an important part of the trauma team.
Jeong Yein Takes Over a Familiar Character
“The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call” centers on Baek Kang Hyuk, a highly skilled trauma surgeon played by Ju Ji Hoon, who takes on the difficult task of rebuilding a struggling Severe Trauma Care team.
The first season also featured Choo Young Woo as Yang Jae Won, Yoon Kyung Ho as Han Yu Rim and Jeong Jae Kwang as Park Gyeong Won, alongside Ha Young as senior nurse Cheon Jang Mi.
Cheon Jang Mi was introduced as an important member of the trauma center team.
In an earlier interview, Ha Young described her character as someone willing to do whatever was necessary to help keep the trauma center running.
The actress also explained that the director encouraged her to bring her naturally energetic personality into the role.
Ha Young will not return for the upcoming seasons.
Netflix confirmed earlier in September that the actress had decided not to appear in the follow-up seasons and that the company respected her decision.
Her departure led the production team to hold auditions for a new actress who could take over the character of Cheon Jang Mi.
Jeong Yein was ultimately selected through that process, marking an interesting new stage in her acting career.
While she is widely known as a member of Lovelyz, she has gradually expanded her activities into acting and theater.
She began exploring acting through projects including the 2017 web drama “The Blue Sea” and tvN’s “Criminal Minds.”
Since then, she has continued taking on acting opportunities, allowing her career to develop beyond her work as a K-pop idol.
What’s Ahead for ‘The Trauma Code’ Seasons 2 and 3
Jeong Yein’s casting adds another layer of anticipation to the return of “The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call.”
The first season was released in January 2025 and followed Baek Kang Hyuk as he attempted to transform a struggling trauma care unit into a functioning team capable of responding to critical emergencies.
The series went on to attract significant international attention and topped Netflix’s Global Top 10 list for non-English TV shows following its release.
Plans for additional seasons have developed over several months.
In June, reports emerged that Seasons 2 and 3 could be produced together, with filming reportedly planned for October.
At that point, Netflix emphasized that discussions were ongoing and that details had not yet been finalized.
More recently, Netflix continued to clarify that production details were still being discussed, although filming was expected to move forward.
With Jeong Yein’s casting now officially confirmed, one of the biggest changes to the returning cast has been settled.
The new seasons will therefore introduce viewers to a familiar character through a different performer.
Jeong Yein will inherit the role of Cheon Jang Mi while the drama continues the story of Baek Kang Hyuk and the Severe Trauma Care team.
For Jeong Yein, the project represents another step in her transition between music and acting.
Having debuted as a member of Lovelyz before expanding into drama and theater, joining a high-profile Netflix series gives her another opportunity to show a different side of her performance skills.
