Well, the divorce of Lionel Richie and Alexander came as a shock for their loved ones as they appeared to be happily married. Richie debuted in 1982 with his first solo album titled Lionel Ritchie. Richie became a household name and gained commercial success with his song Happy. Before marrying Alexander, the American Idol judge tied the knot with Brenda Harvey, his high-school sweetheart, but their marriage collapsed after he cheated on Brenda with Diane and became violent towards her.
Diane Alexander is a former fashion designer and actress,s but she is best known as the ex-wife of Lionel Ritchie. Diane and Lionel share two children between them. Lionel and Alexander met in a conventional manner and had love at first sight. Lionel was in a committed marriage with Brenda, his high-school sweetheart Brenda Harvey when he first met Diane and fell head over heels for her.
In the 1984 Olympic Games Ceremony, Alexander and Lionel met for the first time as he was set to perform at the event. As Lionel was performing, his eyes met with Diane, and they felt an attraction stronger than before thus, the two introduced each other.
But Diane and Lionel didn’t begin to date each other till 1986, as Lionel initially resisted cheating on his wife. Lionel and Diane’s relationship remained a secret from the world till 1988, when Brenda finally caught Ritchie cheating on her.
Brenda caught Lionel in the act after she called the hotel in Beverley Hills where Lionel was staying with Alexander. Brenda gained access to the hotel room where Lionel was staying with his affair partner by pretending to be a housekeeper, and in a fit of rage, she physically assaulted both of them and was charged with battery.
This ended Lionel and Brenda’s 18 years of marriage. Well after his divorce from Brenda, Alexander, and Ritchie began dating openly for two years, and finally, they made it official by tying the knot in December 1995. Diane and Alexander share two kids between them. Many of the fans of Lione and Diane felt they were the endgame, but the couple filed for divorce in 2004.
Lionel filed for divorce from his then-wife Alexander in 2004 on the grounds of having irreconcilable differences, and he claimed they had grown apart over the 8 years. Well, during the initial divorce proceedings, Ritchie made the offer to pay $55,000 monthly to Alexander as spousal support. Alexander rejected Ritchie’s offer and counter-proposed that she required $300,000 as spousal support to maintain her lifestyle.
Diane made the statement to the media portals where she stated that she knows he earns in excess, so giving her $300,000 on a monthly basis shouldn’t be a big deal for him. Even though the couple had some disagreements during their divorce proceedings, they have moved forward and become amicable with their kids. The news of Lionel and Diane getting a divorce came out in 2003 and left their loved ones heartbroken as they felt that Lionel and Alexander were meant to be together.
