K-pop girl group LIGHTSUM is embarking on an exciting new chapter in their music career by kicking off official preparations for their upcoming Japanese debut.

On September 9, news broke regarding their pre-release schedule, confirming that the group will drop the main title track of their debut Japanese mini-album ahead of the full physical record launch.

According to the official timeline, the lead single will land across major digital streaming platforms on September 16, serving as an early preview before the full mini-album, titled “Re:Idol,” officially drops one week later on September 23.

The upcoming title track captures a sweet, relatable story centered around the emotional swings of an unrequited crush, where a person’s mood constantly fluctuates depending on the words and actions of the one they admire.

To complement this lyrical narrative, the performance choreography relies on delicate, charming hand gestures designed to match the catchy rhythm of the melody.

Stylistically, “Re:Idol” marks a noticeable artistic pivot into a distinctly “kawaii” visual direction, shifting away from their past Korean discography.

To reinforce this refreshed aesthetic, concept imagery showcases all six members dressed in matching light-blue outfits adorned with decorative ribbons, setting a bright tone for their new venture.

Structural Rebrand Supported by Documentary Series and Nationwide Promotional Tour

Rather than a simple overseas expansion, LIGHTSUM’s entry into the Japanese music market represents a complete structural rebuild for the group.

Having originally debuted in South Korea in 2021 under CUBE Entertainment, the act faced an extended hiatus from active group promotions.

In response, their agency suggested reshaping the ensemble’s musical direction along traditional Japanese idol lines, a fresh opportunity that all six original members eagerly agreed to pursue together.

To document this unique transition, Japanese streaming service ABEMA is broadcasting a dedicated documentary series, also titled “Re:Idol,” which offers viewers an intimate, behind-the-scenes look at their intensive training, preparation, and creative transformation.

Following the formal album drop on September 23, LIGHTSUM will launch an extensive promotional tour across Japan to connect directly with their growing overseas audience.

Their promotional schedule will officially open in Hokkaido on September 27 before expanding into major metropolitan stops, including Tokyo, Osaka, and additional cities beginning October 10.

These interactive fan events will feature dynamic mini-live showcase stages, high-touch fan meetings, and special album signing sessions.

As the release date for their pre-release title track approaches, supporters are anticipating how this new concept will reshape LIGHTSUM’s journey in the international pop landscape.
